I bought many quarts of Agco paint to do my D17 IV. Its not going to be a trailer queen so I just want it to look like it did when it left the factory. No high dollar automotive finish or clear coat. The problem is the cans has no information on it in terms of mixing ratios and requirements. The man painting my tractor would like to know about adding hardener and reducing this enamel paint. Anyone have experience with Agcos paint and would like to give advice on mixing? Thanks in advance, Ryan

I sprayed 8:1:1 ratio. 8=paint, 1= hardner,1=reducer. This was for the cream color and I would expect the Orange would be the same. This has always worked well for me. HPVL gun at 25-30 psi.

The orange PO2 was PPG. Wonderful paint with great coverage and ease of application. I did not get the Agco because it was only sold in quarts. I needed 2 1/2 gallons for my 190XT.

AGCO sells the correct reducer and hardener for their paint. The reducer I bought from them was from Velspar.

That’s a hard question. I purchased the tractor in April of 2016. I spent several months rebuilding or replacing parts. Correcting electrical issues, changing all fluids, filters, replacing gaskets to fix leaks. I wanted everything to work properly.
As far as the paint, I started disassembling the tractor in late October 2016 at my home. Once I disassembled it I hauled it to my best friends garage at his farm about 10 miles away. He has a paint bay and sand blasting equipment that he graciously allows me to use. Nothing fancy but great for farm equipment. All sheet metal had to be repaired. No rust but lots of dings and dents. Grill was almost unsalvageable. Another good friend worked on that for me and did an outstanding job. Working the sheet metal to my satisfaction took over a month. It was February by the time everything had been repaired and prepped for paint. I sprayed all sheet metal and parts first. 1 coat of etching primer, 1 coat of gray primer, and 6 coats of PPG PO2. I spray light coats to prevent runs as I am no means a great painter. It took 2 large hay wagons to store the parts on after they were finished. The tractor received the same combination. I finished painting in early April. I worked on it most days after work and on weekends. She made her debut at the Memorial Day parade after working 30 hours straight to finish all the details including putting the decals on at 2 a.m. the morning of the parade! Lol...but man was it worth it. I’m really proud how well she turned out. It was a work of passion for a tractor that I had always wanted. Neighbors said she was too nice to use on the farm, but I proved them wrong working her hard all summer long mowing and bailing hay. I cant wait until spring to get her back in the field. I have a 4 bottom 70 series plow waiting to tear up some ground. So how much time? I have no idea, but it was time consuming and I loved every minute of it. |
