 Topic: AGCO/Heston round baler

I have an opportunity to buy a 190xt that puts out 105hp at the pto. If I wanted to round bale with it, is there any model baler I should buy that the 190xt can handle? I would like to keep it in the "Allis" family if I can.

Heston 540, 550, 560, etc. Not sure if I got the #'s right, I have an older 5530, that I pull with a D-10. This same baler series is also rebadged as IH's and New Ideas. All you really need is to have 1 set of remotes, to open the door...

I haven't bought the 190xt yet, I'm saving to buy the baler outright with no debt. I'm looking which model to buy and go from there in regards to money. I'll be baling about 100 acres, more than one cutting.

If you can afford a 565a that's my vote. They were a very nice baler. We traded to a 856a in 2000 and wished we had kept the 565a. Probably put around 10000 bales through it when we traded. We baled with a 75hp 6680 when it worked and a 7060 the rest of the time. The 190 would handle it nicely even in our hills.
You can buy a decent 565a around here for $5000

7060, we have some hills in Upstate NY, all the tractors have the rear wheels out with weights just to drive the hills, hahaha. Thanks for the info!!

If your hilly I wouldn't buy an XT to round bale with. You'd be better with a 7000, 7010 or something like that with hyd. brakes and so you can back up without the baler shutting off. I love the XT's and we have one and it's the last tractor I'd use. As for the baler I've had a NH 650,740 and now have a NH 7060 and they've all been good balers.

I'm not nearly as knowledgeable about a 190xt as the others her but with 105 pto hp you shouldn't have any problem running any round baler. That tractor should weigh enough to handle most of them as well. Your limiting factors would be terrain, hydraulics (hydraulic tie, electric tie, manual tie, obviously hydraulic tie needs an extra remote), parts availability, budget, how fast do you want to go (older balers take longer to tie), and bale size. If I was going to be doing custom baling, I would go after a 4x6 hard core variable chamber. You should be able to bale 4x4, 4 1/2x4, 5x4, 5 1/2x4, and 6x4. That should pretty well cover most customers needs.
When you consider your terrain remember you have to open the rear door to eject the bale. If you're on sidling ground, that baler is going to get awfully top heavy as it virtually doubles the baler height.

We mostly bale with 7060 with cab air and power-shift but I like to bale with the 190xt because of the power director clutch and it seems to go a long way on fuel. I think it is a little limited in the speed choices but 3rd high doesn't crowd the baler at all. Not many conditions when 4th low would work and then you get into power issues on hills. You are in the dust since it has no cab. Baler size is a individual preference and what is practical for you. If you are selling and hauling, 4 foot wide usually make sense but feeding hay to your own stock close to where the bales are made 5 wide bales make more sense to me.

The 190xt I'm looking at has a year round cab, each reach wheel has 6, 75lbs wedge weights plus two 100 lbs donut weights along with a factory weight that is bolted to the frame in the front. My father use to chop and bale with this 190xt but then sold it years ago. I don't plan on baling with it, I plan on using either 8030 or 8010 however if both went down and in a pinch I want to be able to throw the 190xt on it. The 8010 and 190xt are not that much different in hp

I have a Hesston 540 I pull with the 180 or the 7010, depends on if it's hot out or a nice day! lol a/c works in the 7010!
