We also have a 6690. It has been a good tractor for us but in hindsight we most likely shouldn't have bought it as getting repair parts in the future will be a huge problem. I know they were built by the SAME company in Italy. Maybe you could expand your search there if you speak the language. Ryan

never was a "kit" - we always just fixed what was bad... have some with 10,000 hours... any parts not available thru Agco can be found thru a Deutz dealer. Unlike Deutz one cannot change pistons w/o pulling rods aka dropping the pan. Same Deutz Fahr are all under deutz and parent company seems not so 'friendly' in pricing parts to agco... a lot of parts are much cheaper thru Deutz

I didn't know there was any connection between Same and Deutz, being German and Italian.  Learn something new every day!

Hi there!  I have a couple Agco Allis's from 1995.  6680 and 6690.  The 6680 is ready for an overhaul.  I want to keep this tractor going, as they are awesome in vegetable production with the creeper gear and great fuel economy.   Can you send me a phone number where you got the parts to do an overhaul?  And maybe the costs and any gotchya's?   I have a 40 year experience mechanic from John Deere as my neighbor and is willing to do the overhaul if I can get the parts.

Thanks, I really appreciate it!

Check Agco  vs Explorer  80   SAME from a Same Deutz Fahr  or Deutz Fahr dealer.
Make sure the engine is non turbo'd piston and you will need some measurements to order parts. Look it up in agcopartsbooks.com  as to head gasket shim thickness and oring thicknesses around the sleeve.
Sutter Bros in Coldwater is one...

Thanks Tbran!   Yeah, I knew the 6680 was the same tractor as the Explorer 80.  I actually got a quote from SAME out of Italy for a complete Rebuild Kit for the SLH 1000.4-AT engine at $1600 with shipping.  Since I have never done this before, I wasn't sure if that was a good price  or not.  I wanted to check around in the states before ordering from them direct.  Knowing the information you posted, along with the Sutter Brothers in Ohio helps out a lot!   Thanks for the quick reply!   I know its going to be a project for sure.... but still cheaper doing this then trying to buy a replacement tractor.

Not engine rebuild but just got the parts for the FWA final drive that someone ran until the wheel would no longer turn...same model as yours...your engine overhaul kit price is less than 1/3 of the price of the final drive parts...not happy at home tonight....

Not sure what name they go by but I’ll give you both options. Either it’s West Michigan Diesel or Johnson diesel in Wayland Mi.   When we had the Duetz powered R52 we had their number stashed everywhere.   At the time I felt they were good folks to deal with.
