A little update on the affordable GPS project. I figured I would start a new topic so it would be a little easier to follow. I came across a free Windows-based application that some guys in Canada have been working on together that seems like it might be worth trying. You just download the file, extract it on your computer, and the application is in the file (no need to run a setup or anything like that, it's a pretty basic program). I played around with it briefly with my old GPS unit (severed wires taped back together to make it work for now) and it seems like a simple enough interface and it tracked my movements. I haven't setup equipment in it, so I couldn't do any tracking or test the AB line, but if someone wants to give it a try, it seems like something that might be worth pursuing. I believe they are working on or have in place some row-control features in the software. If you type in a google search for AgOpenGPS, you will come across some forum topics on it and features and future features.
Still working on an affordable sub-meter GPS antenna. There are actually guys making RTK systems with little mini computers called Raspberry Pi (Here is a link to one so you can have an idea what they are
I am trying to look into both setups, and I'm not sure the RTK system might not be similar in price to a sub-meter GPS chip at the end of the day (I think you can use less expensive chips with the RTK). The RTK will take a good bit more time and effort to put together because you'd have to program the mini computer to use it with a free program that is out there. Anyways, that's the update for now and I'll keep you posted as I get more done.
