I have been thinking a lot the last couple of days about safety. sometimes when someone wants to know how do I do this or that we don't think safety first not thinking maybe the asker doesn't have the experience or someone close to them to guide them. so they might not have tools/equipment some of us have. I have been reading the Roto baler safety post almost anything we do with this equipment operating/working on it can be dangerous with out good safety advice. When we advise someone at our shop, house, farm, ect we have an idea of their skill / understanding of the task/job here is harder to know I am not picking on anyone just something to think about. safety not only affects you but the person next to you family, Friends, neighbors. I have had my musings for the day.

Having seen the accident reports that used to come through Tractor Engineering, and investigating a few of them, the results of a moment of carelessness (or just plain stupidity) can be very, very sad.
Shut the engine off, use jack stands, etc, etc, etc. |

I heard Mark point out a missing PTO shield a good while back on a tractor. For some reason that's stuck in my head. Been looking for one to put on my Case 930. Thinking about the gas tank welding also but I did know the dangers of gas when I was 16/17 although would not want to be involved in someone else getting hurt.

Disconnect the battery any time you turn a wrench. Sometimes I pull plug wires too.
Just because we worked (or are working, physically or overall project) on something doesn't mean the next person who walks up to it will know that we are, or what we did. I've heard of something along those lines happening in more then one case unfortunately. Think of it as a "lock out/tag out" for those of us who are familiar with the term/process. Too often it will "only take a minute" …it truly does only take a minute in more ways then one. I'll be the first to raise my hand. I'm guilty.
