What do you guys add to your fuel storage tanks and tractors that see little to no usage during the winter, in order to keep the fuel fresh and useable?
Thanks |

They also sell it in large containers to treat alot.
Diesel fuel degrades with time, causing darkening of the fuel, as well as sludge and sediment formation within the fuel tank. These issues are even more prevalent in bio-diesel and Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuels. This can lead to the plugging of filters, starting problems, poor engine performance and reduced engine life. Diesel Formula STA-BIL® keeps diesel fuel fresh, promotes thermal oxidative stability, protects against corrosion and helps remove water which bacteria, fungus and algae require to grow. It also contains extra lubricity and detergents to protect and clean your entire fuel system. For more information on Diesel Tank http://www.goldeagle.com/brands/stabil/products.aspx#Dieselstabil |

Moisture and algae is your biggest enemy. Google is your friend. Google "diesel fuel additives" and take it from there. Sta-Bil is one I'm familiar with. There are others.

Don't need anything. Diesel doesn't go bad like gas. It took a year and a half from the time my head gasket let go until I got the overhauled engine back in and running in my D17D. The tractor had just over a half tank of fuel set all that time. You can use the diesel Stabil if you want, you don't need it though. Don't use alcohol based products either. Alcohol has 0 lubricating properties and picks up any water and runs it through your pump and injectors. Not a good idea...

diesel fuel of today very much so goes bad over time. We have seen so many issues of customer's equipment that sits a lot, not used. I think it's the animal fat bio-diesel, but no proof that is it. Most people don't even know they're buying bio-diesel blends. Keep the WATER out! I have rebuilt so many fuel injection pumps due to this fuel going bad, gumming everything up. last week I rebuilt 2 CAV pumps that had seized because of it. This has been my experience as a fuel injection specialist.

Unless the tank is full to the top and is sealed somehow air will get into tank and you will have condensation. Water will cause a problem, so either drain the tank completly and change filters or use a additave of some type. Remember also the bio-fuel is a agressive cleaner and will dislodge old grime in a system and add to filter problems.
