I am starting to build my WD-19 (45 diesel with 6cyl gas from combine swapped in) and plan on adding my Kelly loader to the front. I am also planning on adding a PTO pump to have better hydraulics.

I am thinking 10-13 g/min is plenty for what I am doing and have a reservoir to add on as well, but am wondering about the different options of PTO pumps now.

I am seeing PTO pumps that look like the ones that I am familiar with, PTO shaft into a housing with ports on the side, but also a PTO gear case with class 2 pump that looks like the same thing with a pump like a log splitter uses. Can anyone fill me in on the differences and if I am off base on what I am looking at?

Look at the 2 different specification sheets. You can't tell anything without them. 
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.

I don’t think you will be happy with a pto pump. Your pump will stop when you use the foot clutch.

A pump running off the engine will be much better.  It is more work to design and build, but it will be much more useful.  

But a 13-15 gpm pump will be plenty.

yea.. i would not use a PTO Pump unless it was LIVE... Driven from motor ...  how does your "WD 19" work ?

Dad had a Pto pump on the WD it worked fine. It was no differant than the Wds pump it also stops when you push the clutch in. After initally starting and picking nag a gear I rarely use the foot clutch on my WD45. With Hytrans in the hand clutch and the gap set at .0035 I can change gears with the hand clutch. If I go to neutral I need to use the foot clutch again.

I won’t have room for an engine mounted pump unfortunately.

I’ll just use the hand clutch most of the time. The majority of the loader work I do is just lifting equipment to load it.

My late Father-in-law's WD had a PTO pump that was chain driven; it worked fine, we normally just used the hand clutch.

After many years of using it with that setup the pump and chain drive were well-worn, he then installed a new pump at the belt pulley location to free up the PTO; it worked quite well too.

I thought about that route too but for ease of installation wanted a more plug and play thing.

I found a pulley off a WC with a corn picker and used it with a power steering pump to add a char Lynn unit to another 45 I had. Worked great with the same foot clutch concerns.

I have run hydraulic and sprayer pumps off belt pulley by using different pulleys.  Much better place than PTO. Still have to use hand clutch.                    MACK
