What happened to all this stuff when they closed? I emailed AGCO and they said they don't have any original documents or pictures. That that was not apart of the aquisition. Did Deutz throw them all away??? I was told told by AGCO that OAN would have stuff? Do they? Allis-Chalmers pictures were not included in the purchase.
You may want to check with David Clausen, owner of the Old Allis News 471 70th Ave. Cty Rd. J, Clayton, WI 54004 Phone 715 268 4632 Email: oldallisnews@amerytel.net He may have some photos. Also I had asked about blueprints and they replied: AGCO never manufactured Allis Chalmers tractors. The successor to Allis Chalmers Corporation, Allis-Chalmers Energy, Inc., is located in Houston, Texas. Their website is www.alchenergy.com. Someone there may be able to help. I never got around to asking AC Energy about it. |

Most of the documents and photos were pitched into dumpsters. I know since I help dig in these dumpsters to retrieve what we could. My parents were able to salvage maybe 1% of what there was. Employees were told to dispose of what they had.

Daughter #1 and her husband are a wealth of
knowledge about Allis-Chalmers. You will be very pleased when you talk to them. They may be able to answer some of your questions. HYH |

I believe the Wisconsin State Historical Society may have gotten some, but am not sure and don't know what if they have anything. My auction through Girard Auctions last week end had some factory provided materials but i have no idea who got what. Tractorman

The LaPorte County Historical Society has some AC stuff. There are some neat photos of different LaPorte Works products and prototypes in their archives. You will have to visit their museum to see them. |

When I met Norm Swinford many years ago I asked that very question, and what he told me was duetz wanted it all distroyed so the majority went to the landfill, and some stuff was pulled out like the other poster said, the picture on the front of Norms book, the 190xt was an oil painting that he dug out of the dumpster. I guess the germans wanted all signs of the past (that helped kick there a** in WW2 ) disposed of.

The Germans are big on preserving their own history so why would they not respect the history of an old well known company like Allis Chalmers? Is Kcgrain right?

I managed to buy alot of documents and artifacts of the LaPort factory at an auction in LaPort some time ago. Haven't had any time to go through it. Lots of inner-office memmo's, and confidential documents, blueprints, photo's, and sales seminar info. The gentlemen who owned this stuff was an A-C engineer named Craig Cannon. Anybody heard of him?

Have you thought of donating it to a museum? That valuable stuff. The Milwaukee Historical Society has a lot of stuff.

The AC ag division documents and pictures are in the Agco Parts warehouse in Batavia ILL. It states it right in the heritage parts book page 159.
As for all the other divisions and corporate info, thats a good question we discussed it a few months back on here. the last AC employee from west allis in 1999 now lives in south florida, he would know. I just cant remember his name. there must have been thousands of file cabinets full from such a large company in business for so long. |

I know AGCO has Parts blueprint type stuff becasue occasionally we have to have them go dig so we can find a correct part for a customer.

Well when I have asked people at AGCO they seem to think that they have none of the documents or pictures from AC. They just give me the run around. If they really don't care that much about it, why not give it to a Museum that preserves it and makes sure that others can see it.

I,m afraid thats just it - ALLIS CHALMERS was no more - at that time no one wanted to save\ preserve stuff from a dying company - I went to alot of AC dealers going out of business in the late 80,s and bought stuff dirt cheap , signs etc - it seems later mid 90,s the AC collectors woke up and started paying big bucks for stuff that had been cheap and alot of other items , memorabilia , etc just got hauled to landfills cause no body was interested - when its gone its gone -

I called a local forging company, Star Manufacturing in Freeport, IL., about possibly running some older plow shares that are no longer available. I knew that at one time they were a contractor for Allis plow parts. They told me that, in 1985, they were ordered by Deutz to destroy anything they were making related to Allis Chalmers .

As someone else described to me, when AGCO, with the original insightful management, was started the only choice they had for a tractor was to start working from the White frame because Deutz had long ago scrapped any tooling, dies, and molds related to the superior (in my opinion) 8000 series shortly after they took over the reins.
Also, as far as memorabilia, my dad who worked at AC in the electrical division in 63' told me a story once. At one time he was sent to the upstairs of one of the tractor plants to dig out some old archived drawings for some electrical equipment. While walking through the building he stumbled across a full size wooden mock-up of a 100 series tractor just sitting collecting dust. That would have been something to own.
Being of over 50% Germanic background it is hard to say, but it seems like the large German corporations are just pompous. The AC story has been replayed so many times since 1985. A more recent version of the story that is near and dear to me would be Chrysler. Unlike AC Chrysler was on the rise in 1998 when Daimler came in. They waved around a lot of cash to the corporate types and the buyout; I mean "merger" was done. It only took from 1999-2007 to decimate the company while spending Chrysler's 4 billion cash reserves on their own pet projects. I still remember the first ads after the buyout, I mean "merger". To paraphrase: an American car with superior German engineering. Just like Duetz, they pushed their idea of what Americans want and don't bother to listen to their customers. Chrysler was in the middle of retooling or building a plant for their new full size van, then came Daimler and we ended up with the sprinter. There are several other examples I can come up with but I do not want to bore everybody. The moral of the story is if the other product is better get rid of it so you can push your own inferior product because you know best what the people should want.
There I will get off my soap box now. Edited by Michael (WI) - 13 Oct 2011 at 8:57am |

I guess it makes sense. A German is in controll of AGCO now and what did he do...push the old brand ( orange ) away and got rid of it.

It probably depends on who you talk to at Agco. It must have been about April this year as I was putting my 262 together for my D17 I got some help from Bill at Sandy Lake. He told me he called someone at Agco and they dug out the blueprints for the 262 to get the specs for the sleeves and counterbores in the block.
