I need a little help. AC compressor went out of the 8050 just as i finished planting. Allis dealer wanted $650 for a new one. International truck dealer listed one for $130 that was supposed to fit. it was the same compressor but had a different pulley. i was going to change the clutch but the shaft was a different size. i was wondering if anyone else has a part # or can sell me a new one for a decent price. i forget the manufacturer name but it's the pancake type like GM used. i think it's henderson or something like that. any help would be appreciated.
PS it has a new expansion valve and the last day i ran it it was at 170 on the high and 90 on the low and leaked down over night. old pump had oil and dirt around the shaft where it was leaking. |

When you say went out, do you mean it leaked or seized? Loss of the oil in the system from leaks is usually the cause of seizure. In that case you need to check the system for metal particles.

You have a GM R-4 COMP. with the ag clutch, not very reliable. If it were mine I'd change it back to a GM A-6 with the ag clutch. You'll need to change the mounting brackets, early 8000 series or 7000 series brackets. I think the R-4's used O-ring fittings so you should be ok there. HTH, Mike

A&I sells a kit to convert it over to a different compressor which is a much better compressor than GM. MACK

AP Air has quite a few options.

Thanks for the input. that is what i was looking for. i will try those two places and see what i come up with. i knew i had to be able to get a new one for less than $650.
and when i say it went out, it just wasn't building head pressure, so i assume it was bypassing in the pump. it didn't start leaking untill the last day or two. i would just charge it untill it cooled enought to get through the day. it is getting the engine rebuilt this winter along with the AC system. |

My 6060 had the Harrison (GM) style like you are talking about. She stopped cooling and about 2 days later it locked up tight. Switched to a new Sanden from AP Air, been working good so far.

The Sanden is a good reliable compressor.
