I saw a 6040 listed, and had never heard or seen one. Any info on them? Said less than 500 made, must not have been a poductive model.

I owned a 6040 for 5 years, was a good tractor. The Perkins 3.152 engine is easy on fuel. always started in the cold. I still have a couple manuals for it laying around.

In addition to the above, I'll just add that the 6040 is a handy, nice driving tractor. I have #365 of #499 and have been very pleased with it. It is very thrifty on fuel and easy to start in cold weather as schwanman66 mentioned. Dad uses it for raking during hay season since a tank of diesel will cover alot of acres. There is growing collector value in some circles due to the limited production numbers. Larry Karg is fond of these tractors and sent me alot of information when I bought mine. JimIA fixed me up with a NOS muffler.
Here are some highlights of the differences between the 160 and 6040 (from a 6040 data sheet): * Heavier crankcase (since there is no side frame) * New front axle (non roll-shift, heavier stubs and axle tube, no wishbone) * New seat, 3" shorter wheelbase, rear wheel width max changed from 77" to 75" * Sediment bowls eliminated (fuel filter has glass bowl on bottom for sediment) * Other changes to cooling and electrical, battery location, etc..... Harvey, Actually I'm going tomorrow to look at another D15, just to keep it company. This one has factory 3 pt. Still haven't gotten around to painting the rims. The 6040 looks interesting, it would help take the haying chores away from the D15.

Brian, my cousin at Harrisonburg had a D15 SII with factory 3 pt. they traded it on a newer Ford & were happy to get $1500 for it, of course I found out about it too late. It was as nice as yours. Does the 6040 have a Perkins? Should be as good on fuel as the 15's, you may have to siphon some fuel out occasionally so they don't overflow!...Harvey
