I have just joined the forum. I purchased an AC 400 ripper today and would like to know where to get a parts manual for it? It is complete except for hubs and wheels. I could consider rubber tires or steel wheels since it will probably never leave my ranch. Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks, Grant.

I've gotten most of my AC manuals from the old local Allis Chalmers Dealer.
Welcome to the forum. Dusty

Thanks Dusty. I will look up dealers, but I have never seen one anywhere local. I tried a bunch of online manual sites and didnt get any information. I suspect that AC may have not made a lot of rippers. Grant.

I've got a couple from Jensales Company, they are not as good as from A.C.
There is an A.C. company that advertises on this web site, that everybody seems happy with them. And Williams Farm Machinery 517-543-4770, is close to me, have been doing business with them for 60 years. Dusty

Thanks, I will give Williams a call Monday. I have not tried Jensales. I have several of their Caterpillar manuals and find them poor but better than nothing. Thanks again. Grant.

Hi Gary, I was told it is an AC 400. The only thing I can find on the net is one that sold on "Putman Auction" and it is definitely the same as the one I bought. I dont have it home yet (next week) so I dont even know if it has a data plate. I didnt think to look for a plate. I am looking for a manual and not found anything yet. When I get it home, I will measure the spindles and see if the hubs that are in the classified section of this forum might be adaptable. If worse comes to worse, I will have to press the spindles out and have some made to fit some common hub. I hope to not have to do that. The person doing the estate sale says he uses an AC600 ripper that looks the same, just heavier/larger structurally. I found photos of a 600 and it does look the same except that the wheels on the 600 are 8 hole and the 400 uses 5 hole wheels. This is all a learning experience. Grant.

I just went back and looked at "Putman Auction", and it shows a 400 , and I looked on "Tractor House.com" and it shows a 600. These are just for getting an idea of what they look like. I suspect that AC didnt make too many of these before everybody switched over to rippers on the back of the tractor. Grant.

You can buy ready made spindles with hubs and bearings installed. Shoups is one place that sells them.

Welcome to the A-C Forum. Do a search on eBay for "allis 400 tool carrier", you will find two manuals available. Also available for the 600 Tool Carrier as well. Once you look at these, is that what you are looking for? You're not talking about a 410 or 610 Chisel Plow are you?

They have been a common tool here in California. I don't know what a parts book will do today. AGCO has not been just super about helping with 60 year old stuff. Would thing measuring the spindles and go from there. But harder all the time find a old parts man that has done mechanic work to and understands what your looking for.
The way described I am not sure if you even have the spindles. May just be cheaper to buy spindles bearings and hub in a package deal than hunting pieces. But then a cut and weld job rather than a bolt the pieces together.

Pretty sure the tool you are asking about was made in Oxnard, California. I doubt very much if any parts are available thru AGCO anymore.

JimWenigOH, I just ordered the 400 manual from ebay. I thought that I had looked at every AC manual on ebay, but I missed those. It wont arrive until Aug. (from Canada) but that is OK. Thank all of you for helping. Grant.

We're going to need some pictures. Just went through the 'bible' and didn't find anything on a model 400 ripper. Curiosity is killing me.

Since I am a "Techno Dinosaur" photos never work for me. The Putman auction site has very good photos of a 400. The one I bought looks identical, except the paint is mostly gone and of course, no wheels at this point. Nothing looks bent or broken, so I think it is in good shape. I have been refering to it as a ripper, but the manual I just bought calls it a tool carrier. That is probably why I found very little about it on the internet. This forum has been a big help. Again, Thanks to All. Grant.

Welcome to the Forum! I see on the map you aren't all that far from Mel in Redwood Valley. He often posts on the construction equipment thread. Gots lots of AC machines.
