I am working on an AC 30KW generator powered by a D262 that has set for over a year without being started.  We have changed the coolant and the lube oil.  After priming the injector pump the engine refused to start.  We went on to bleed the air from the lines by cracking the fittings at the injectors but cannot get any signs of fuel going from the injector pump to the injectors. There is 12vdc getting to the shutdown solenoid while we crank the engine.

I would appreciate any suggestions on where to go next, and would like to purchase a shop manual and owners manual for this generator and motor if anyone has one available.

Thanks,
Rowland

Do you have the "Murphy" safety switch on this unit?  These are set to shut down the engine if the oil pressure drops or the temperature rises above a set limit.
If you have this feature there should be a push button that is held while starting.

I agree with Joe, Murphy switches were ever so prevalent on the older equipment.  If not set up try to remove the kill solenoid and see if the plunger is gummed up or if there is debris holding it to stop.  If it has the all too common Roosa-Master base pump check to see that the lift section is working by hand priming the system and then cranking, also check the return fuel check valve in the solenoid section for gumming up open.

Does the shut-down solenoid have a manual over-ride?  That would by-pass the murphy box and the solenoid.  The NTC cummins had a thumb screw that you could screw in to by-pass the solenoid.

I would say you have fuel pump problems.  If it was a gauge problem it would fire until you let go for the start switch.
