I ran across a pretty nice looking AC 200 for sale today. It's a 1975 bareback with loader and cab. Sheet metal and grill are very straight, all glass is good. Front tires look fairly new and rears are about 60% with some slight weather cracking. Right rear rim shows some minor corrosion. It's priced at $9000 Cdn.or best offer. Don't know number of hours but it looks like it has been well looked after.
What are the weak points to look for on this model?? Is the price in the ballpark? I'm used to WDs and WD45s and D17. I don't know anything about these later models.

I have a 190XTD, so the 200 was an improved XT. Heavier rear end, the power director lever operates in a shorter throw with detents instead of the push down to shift on the XT. They were also rated at 94 hp like the XT but were more like 106 hp. There are more changes that I cannot think of at the moment but I will say this. If it was an improvement over the XT then it must be one hell of tractor. My XT is a beast for its size and it does so many things well. My neighbor has one and it’s been a good tractor for him.

I bought two this year actually in one week. I have a 74 and a 75, both open platforms. My previous experience with Allis Chalmers was with my 5040. I am in the process of learning about 200s myself. One thing to check is make sure it doesn't pop out of gear going uphill or downhill. They are way more tractor than I will ever need but I love them. I am not sure of the conversion rate of currency but I think the price is fair if it looks as good as you say, If the seller has front weights for it buy them. But please post pictures I would love to see it.

9000 Seems on the high side for me. Yes, the biggest concern is the transmission jumping out of any gear. If it jumps, run away or drop your price substantially. It is a $2000+ transmission teardown and rebuild. My experience is that it is more common on loader tractors as it constantly being shifted between forward and reverse. An impatient operator will grind it to get into gear causing expensive problems.
If the transmission is solid, there is nothing else to worry about. Try to offer a lower price and see what happens. $7500 to 8000 would be my range.

9000 Canadian dollars is approximately 6900 US dollars. So yes, asking price is kind of in ballpark.
OBO is always helpful though?
301 is an AC turbo diesel fuel miser powerhouse. But don't forget about cavitation that might be present on it's sleeve o-rings? It's an Age thing risk to consider at pricing. It could run good today, and you give it a solid workout & it could develop an antifreeze leak into crankcase oil.
No 3pt.(negative IMO)
Rear wheel fluid weight is good ballast, but may require attention (new tubes - rims patched??)
Dual speed pto (bonus)?
Power shift rear rims(bonus)?
And like previously said, check for Trans issues.

I assume by "bareback" you mean it has no 3 pt. Hopefully it does have PTO. $9000 sounds a little high in US dollars but might not be in Canadian bucks. I have a "74" 200 with cab,great working AC,2 speed Hyd. PTO,no gear jumping,good rubber,never had a loader and overall excellent condition. In fact it is one of the nicest 200's you will ever find. I will be selling it when I get my farm sold. I'm going to ask $8000.00 for it but might have to come down a little. After all in a few months it will be 45 yrs. old. AC's aren't for everybody. Good luck with it if you get it!!!!

I bought a 1972 200 with loader and cab 3800 hours 5 years ago for $5000. Took cab off and use as an open station. It can pull a IH 720 plow with 4-18's no problem. I changed the coolant to Final charge sca. Only problem is hard starting in cold weather. Have to use the tank heater for 1/2 hour. I am very happy so far. It is easy on fuel.

I stopped to look at it the other day as I haven't seen an Allis for sale around here for quite a while. It's a little too much tractor for my operation here, so I wasn't planning on buying it unless it was a steal!! I'll get pictures and post them when it quits snowing!!

I love my 200 that I bought about 2 years ago. I use the tractor for disc mowing, round bales moving, chisel plowing, spraying, corn picking, round baling occasionally, grinding feed and about everything in between. The only job I don't like it for is bushhogging without having the fully independent Pto. If it had that I would sell the green ones and replace with the orange ones. It had sat for a while when I got it and needed some odd and ends mostly seals and orings. Trans was good, the only big item so far was the crank damper that I sent to the guy in Oregon to rebuild. I give $ 5300.00 for it and after all repairs and a decent paint job have around $6800.00 in it not counting my labor for a great addition to the farm. So if the one You're looking at is in good shape and ready to go it might be worth it.

The 7000 is basically the next generation after the 200 and it does have independent PTO.
