Guys,

I know the 190 series was produced from 1964 to 1971.

I am only interested in knowing about the diesels.

We have the 190 (no turbo), the 190XT (with turbo) and the 190XT Series 3 (with turbo).

What I am trying to figure out is when they changed the fenders and grills on each version? Or are there more versions? Were the slanted fenders and bar grills only on the 190 or on the 190XT too? If so, when did they make the change on the 190XT to flat top fenders and "no" bars in the grill?

What did they actually enhance on the 190XT Series 3 to make it different from the 190XT?

I become confused when looking at places like tractor house for these and then I see a 1972 190XT with slanted fenders and a bar grill, just doesn't make sense when that set up should be on the earlier models?

Were there 190XTs that had a mismatched combo of slanted fenders but with no bars in the grill? It has just confused the heck out of me over the years and when I go to buy one eventually, I want it to be correct.

Sorry for the ignorant questions but when a guy goes to shop for one of these, it can become quite confusing on what they should have on them and the year breakout too.

Thanks, Jim

Slant fenders and bar grill were for the Series 1 tractors.
Series II introduced the flat fenders and grill like that of the 220 tractors in 1968.
Series III had the 4 pinion rear end (This could be upgraded on earlier 2 pinion models) to help alleviate the rear end end issues when applying to much power and weight.

But sheetmetal  can be swapped between models if a user needed to replace a part so only the serial can correctly identify what year it is.
I think the 180,185, 190 (II/III) and 200 all used the same nose piece
I have seen the 190 early nose on 180's and 200's so I guess they will fit.

Come to think about it, some used the pleated grill insert, 200?

First of all, welcome to the forum! Second, don't trust the year on tractor house. That can be used to put their item at the top of the list. The bar grill tractors all had the slant fenders, and the one piece hood side panels, 1964 through late 67, and the XT is same, just didn't come out till 65. In Dec 67 they both went to series 2 (serial 19001?)with the newer hood, and side panels, no grill bars, and the flat top fenders. Series 3 came in Dec 68, and only affected the XT Diesel with more drivetrain improvement, most noted the 4 pinion differential, as opposed to the weaker 2 pinion.

injpumpEd, awesome information and that helps out a lot.

Thank you to all so far.

I figured there was something fishy with all that info for TH plus the ability to swap parts all out via all series.

My dad had a 65 XT open station and then I learned to disk on our 190XT Series III we had w a year around cab.

actually there were some 190xt III high crops shipped after the 200 came out - went to Cane Equip in Plaquemine, La.      First series went to sn9001  - second series went to 23001 where the series III started.  The 2 light fenders started in 1968.
19001 was the sheet metal change from the bar grill and filler plate from front to back on each side below the hood center.   The little air cleaner access circle plate was for the xt diesel only before 19001 on the rh front side.  Many early prior 9001 had the small axles changed out to the larger axles.  We saw a small axle on a mid series - which means that a lot of swapping parts has occurred thru the years...
When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money..
