Can the seals in a large rod lift cylinder be changed on the tractor, unpinning one end? Thanks Tracy

Maybe, but would be very awkward.

I've never tried it but I would doubt it.  If you unbolted the cylinder at the lift arms, you cannot drop the cylinder low enough to clear the lift arm.  Is the bolt under the axle rusted in place?

I haven't even tried it yet. Just thought it might be able to replace without too much hassle. I shall see next time I have the time to look it over, just figured someone had already did it. Thanks Tracy

Getting the snap ring down in grove and back out would be the problem.        MACK

they are fun on bench to get snap ring off and on  , you have to go in hole were oil hose hooks up and that will be under axle housing and will not be able to see it for sure

Did my 17IV a few months back and got lucky as keepers came out easy and a chisel driven behind pin showed I could get a tad movement. Soaking w/ Kroil and moving the pin back and forth/rotating from outside end with a small pipe wrenchand they came out far easier than I expected from the horror stories I had heard.
*Chisel movement from behind, spray and drive back in, repeat worked for me.
I dropped both rear tires/wheels off as I wanted to get a good look at the girl that had reportedly sat in a barn for many years.
Tried a new shop as closer than one I had build cylinder pistons for D12 3-pt. some years back. Said a standard hone was all that was required but the one housing was junk as she leaked badly after "redress", never would have sealed so a new one was made by the original shop I had used, perfect match and looks just like the OEM, holds like a jug.
Lots of anti-seize going back together on pins . . . . .
