could be, ha, -the real issue was massey was strong in the small tractor market. They were also a lot of small dealers / about one in every county or two. When the 2000 came out the dealer organization was not ready for high horse power, cab tractors. The non cab units with 8 speed were good units, when you put a cab on one with all that glass it would not cool and the AC components did not have enough btu's to cool the cabs. Then add the 3 speed power shift with those oring seals that a grain of sand could wipe out then add some shifting rail issues and you had a shop full of tractors - and in a lot of dealers they could not even get the units in their shop, so you saw a lot of cabs swung under oak tree limbs , literally , out side the shop. The farmers could not put up with the down time and lack of knowledge of a large segment of dealers; the dealers became frustrated with the company as most smaller massey's were accepted in the market so many dealers gave up on the series too soon. The results were a word of mouth bad rap that spread rapidly. The few dealers that were able to service the units and keep them running scored some successful sales. (sounds a tad like AC huh?)
and when the 80's economy hit - the fat lady had sang.... Massey offered an 8 speed tranny change out kit that worked, but limited speeds and tinting of the cab windows made the cabs cool. As stated, IF the hydraulics were kept perfectly clean, the shift rail update was followed, cab tinted and the perkins engines left unturned up, there were and still are some success stories. These are considered alternative facts though...
