 Topic: 840 Wheel Loader ?

Good Morning! Greeted by lots of snow this morning and moving it out of the way with the beautiful 615, but am thinking about going to an Allis 4 wheel drive loader.
Anyone running an 840 Loader, one for sale near me but has some steering issues in the front.
Anyone know if the steering system parts, knuckles are still available. Looks like a nice machine, has a cab, and I believe a Perkins diesel. Seems to be very little in print about these machines.
Any help greatly appreciated. Orangeman

There was an articulated AC 840 loader for sale near here several weeks ago. Is yours a straight frame? Did AC make both an articulating and straight fram 840?

Al: Looks to be a straight frame machine. Norms book is silent on the 840, but production listing shows 840, 840B from 1970 - 1976, then picks up again with the 840c between 1981 - 1983. Gosh, I wish I had more info, cause this unit looks like it could sure move the snow.

I have some of the same questions. What's the weight and dimensions of the AC 840 articulated. Wheel size? Bucket? The "good" and the "bad" for the machine? Thanks

I am not sure about too much for 840's, but there was a feedlot in prospect valley colorado that had 2 allis chalmers 840 loaders, made in the 80's, and completely japanese built. anyone know anything about these? they had an inline 6 diesel with an inline pump. Ed.

Hope if these were built in Nippon that they don't have any American Military Iron in them. Where these things built in Topeka or Springfield?

The 840 loaders are covered in chapter 12 of Norm's book. The 840 and 940 loaders were articulated and sold by the industrial tractor dealers not the big dozer dealers.
840's were powered by a 248 Perkins, the 840B was powered by an A-C 2800 engine. The 940 was the same loader but powered by an A-C 2900 engine. They were very popular in this area and had a very good reputation.

i have a 940 and the only problem is it leaks quite well from the trans, maybe front seal,but with a couple of gallons of trans fluid ,i can still do alot of work........

Calvin: Thanks for the reference to Chapter 12, I wizzed right by it and was looking at Chapter Eight where all of the other wheel loaders are listed. I was thinking they were all listed in the same chapter. Thanks Calvin...Orangeman
