When these sickle mowers were designed does anyone know what the minimum horsepower recommended to run them was? I've previously used my d17 to run it but I'd like to leave it alone and use it for a different task and utilize my CA to mow with and possibly rake with my Allis Chalmers b? It is the trailer type sickle mower... Thanks fellas!

I would think a CA should run one easily.  I'd bet a B or C would too, but you might not have enough hydraulics to raise the bar.

I've mowed a lot of acres with AC trailer type mowers pulled behind a CA.I like a smaller tractor to mow with can see better and less chance of tearing up something if some object like a rock is hit.

When I bought my first D-10, it came with a rear mounted mower. I, personally, have never used it, but I assume the former owner had.

"Not enough hydraulic to lift bar"?( I'm assuming you mean a b or c would not have good enough power)? I just rebuilt my ca hydraulic pump last year...

It only takes a few HP to run a sicklebar.  B, on up should run it!Wink

I would guess it has enough power, just not sure about oil capacity for filling a cylinder.  You'd for sure want a small diameter one.

Ok, once I can make sure the front end isn't going to fall apart with the play in front cross arm hole I'll use her for mowing and my b for raking!
