what kind of trouble?? does it stay on? flicker on and off? might not be a big deal to fix the light.i havent done this but i cant see what it would hurt to run a gauge.some others may know more than me on this but i would try to get it working the way it should...jmo...Jb

I suppose you could screw in any automotive-type temperature sender that fits. The sender and the gauge would need to match, of course. Once the gauge is installed, would you know the high  transmission temperature limits?

Light stays on as soon as you crank the tractor.Theres no way the temp could be hot when its 35 degrees and you first start the tractor...checked the wiring I could get to and everything seems ok..Trans.has given no problems...no leaks or anything...

Disconnect the wire from the sender/switch at the transmission.  Do not let the end of the wire short to the frame.  If the light stays off, the problem is the transmission temperature switch.  If the light stays on, follow the wiring back to the light.  Look for chafed insulation and the wire rubbing at that point.  I would say the most likely culprit will be the temperature switch.
