I am replacing the torque limiter and the shield is cracked. How important is this shield? I don't think my 7060 has one and wondered if the 8050 needed one? Thanks Randy

Most time we don't put them back becuase they crack and then make a rattling noise they are there to keep dust and oil off the torque limiter Niel

Great, thanks for the info, I put it back without it. I did notice some noise, between the dampner and the plate i bet its the problem.

If your seals are good you wont need the shield.

And when you do have a seal leak/seep, you will be forced to split the tractor because the torque limiter won't hold sh!&. You could live with a seal that is seeping and stay in the field, but you can't stay in the field with an oily torque limiter. I've had Power Shift input seals leak in the winter months and dry up in the Spring and never split the tractor for anything. Suit yourself....that's why the shield was invented...TOO KEEP OIL OFF OF THE TORQUE LIMITER.

I agree, weld it up, grind it off, and put it back on. You want it in there. Our '76 7060 didn't have one, started seeing oil on the bottom of the housing, wasn't 50 hours maybe, and we were starting to slip the limiter. Split the tractor fixed her all up, put in the shield mod, new seals, and went to town, about three years later, it started to get wet on the bottom of the case again, it is still going, that was 10ish years ago maybe.

I'm with DrAllis the shield was a great accesory for a torque limiter. We usually installed one when doing the torque limiter, it is pretty cheap insurance.I guess if it was a chore tractor with no real loads behind it would be one thing but if you are pulling any type of equipment with the tractor you are going no where fast with oil on the torque limiter. I usually do not get paid to do a job twice so i take all the precautions to do it as good as i can with all the equipment and hardware available to me!!

Well I tooke the advice from here and put the shield, oil shield on the torque limiter. The plate I got from hy-capacity was marked flywheel side and it was wrong, so be sure to check when you get a new one, mine was marked wrong. Thanks for info on the oil shield. Randy
