I've got a 8050 2wd, power shift. Just had it split about 8 hours ago.

I put in a new torque limiter, bellview washer, had the flywheel machined, and checked size on all the spacer. Plus I did the engine plate gaskets and the transmission seal. Changed all fluids and filters, cleaned the screen as well.

I followed the instructions in the service manual for all torque specs and break in. I had no issues disking for the first few hours but now with the digger on it is acting up. Much like it's slipping, the engine will idle up a bit while my forward momentum slows, takes a few seconds than grabs again.

I tried slamming on the brakes to check if I had hydraulic when I stopped but I kill it every time I hit the brakes and I have power steering the whole time. I had no transmission issues pre torque limiter job. I've checked the transmitter fluid level and it's a bit over full of anything.

Any ideas?

It also acts this way when I shift to 5 or 6 high on the road. Not sure what to look at next

When saying followed instructions, does that include burnishing the T/L after install? Sounds like it slips and then grabs. When it slips is the time to jam the brakes and kill it. It's all in the book. I am not a professional mechanic. Doc ,Mack, Lynn will have better answer.

Steve, when I say followed the instructions that is what I mean. I ran it wide open in high 3 and held the brakes till she died. Did it 8 times and never got it to skip.

When it has happened in the field I followed the same procedure the first 10 times it happened.
Once it kept happening I used the brakes to try prove it was the T/L but I always have hydraulic power and can easily kill the tractor, wide open throttle when I try to prove it's the limiter

That's what I thought you meant but hard to decide in print sometimes so it is a head scratcher now. Above my paygrade. Hope your new rear main hasn't started leaking oiling the T/L?!

Park the tractor overnight with the nose downhill a bit and see if there is ANY oil that drips out of the bottom of the bellhousing.

I'll try that and see what happens. The housing looks dry, and I did put the shield back in when I reassembled it

Did you reseal the PD while motor was out? If not that is a good time to do it. Are you sure you put Bellville washer on the right direction?         MACK

Is the trans lube light above 1800 workng if it is a PS ?  If so do the clutch pac test of lower the rpm til the light comes on - then rev up to just put it out - then shift r- 1-6 - light should come on then out same time and go out each shift.  Lube light on in any certain gear indicates issue.

Well morning update. I parked on a hill last night and there was no oil this morning, dry as a popcorn fart.

Then (after it warmed up) I did a clutch pack test and everything was good there.

I took it out with the 18' disk to mess around a bit and I noticed that not only does it act really soft when I shift gears but when Im pulling and go to lift the disk the tractor does it's "slipping" (for lack of a better term) thing when I use the hydraulics. Now that's not the only time but it sure happens on command when I do that.

Is it possible that the supply pump has issues?

I did all filters and drained/filled the tranny with new fluid when I split it (Including cleaning the suction screen)

This probably wont help you, but I did one about 8 or 9 years ago in an 8030.  It would sometimes slip after the first year, but not always when I shifted into high PD.  It got so bad last year it would slip when I would drop to low PD when pulling hard, so I put a new TL in it last month.  This one seated up right away, the other one took 6 or 7 slips before it stalled the engine out, I think the first one was never right...but that is justmy gut feeling.

Where is the screen in the hydraulic system???

You don't say you put in a new pressure plate. All three have to be put in together. One old piece spoils the whole batch.            MACK

I wanted to say your wrong mack because the book says it's fine to reuse the plate if it's true. I had it checked and reused it. After a bunch of messing around with checking pressures and everything looking ok I took it out and started messing with it in the field again and then I got the TL to slip. No idea why I couldn't get it to slip earlier.

I assume once it's slipping I need to split it and do the whole works over again with all 3 new pieces correct?

I have re used the plate only a few times.  All except once those TL failed prematurely (I feel), and the one that did not fail, was one I had machined and I also machined down the spacer pieces to give me the same dimensions as all original assembly would have.
The problem with these tractors, is they are all 35+ years old, and we most likely never bought them new, and we have no history of who worked on what or how they repaired them previous to us.  So all new parts mean its as good as new, in my opinion...

I have tried using old pressure plate with no success. Turned one over for new surface, it busted after a few hours.             MACK

service manuals are written in a way they want you to follow in the event of a warranty repair. Of course, they would not want to pay for a part that is a year old and within spec. Now 40 years later, things are a lot different.
