Neighbor bought a nice restored 8050 Power Shift last year. Really nice tractor and he has been very happy with it. Last week when he got done using it for the day it would not go into park. Shifts fine in both ranges just not going into park. He called me to see if I could figure it out. I have no experience with these but thought maybe it’s a cable issue. I had him work the shift so I could see what was moving under the cab looking from the rear of the tractor. My guess is the small cable as you pull the lever to the left through the gate is not moving that shifter far enough? Looked like there is a access panel under the seat to get to cable. He is going to order a service manual for it tomorrow but I thought I would ask here to see if I’m on the right track?

Probably the small cable, yes. Not connected or something loose not allowing full stroke.

I can’t remember if it under the seat or in front of but there is an access door in the cab floor.

I think with a flashlite, you can see under the cab to determine if the small cable is disconnected from it's anchor or loose at the ball joint before floor removal is needed. The console access is a matter of removing about 4 torx screws and peeling the front of the console to the side.

Near impossible to see trans end. Open console end and disconnect cable there to see what play /travel is like. Plate is under seat. PIA I'd bet it can be adjusted to work VS replacement.

The cable is still attached and moves the shifter at the other end as far as I can see. Very difficult to see from the rear. I will go back out there next week and remove the seat and access door which should give me a much better view of what’s going on. Cable is definitely not broken I think it just needs adjustment I hope. He said it just started getting harder to put in park last couple times he used it. Should I only try to put in park with engine running or should it shift into park with the engine off? I had the tractor running while I was trying to figure out what was going on. Thanks for your help and I will follow up with what I find out.

Running or not shouldn't matter. The little cable just pull shifter sideways to get in the different gate.

Are you sure it is really going into both ranges? The other year ours was stuck in high range but the shifter flopped back and forth between high and low, I don't think it would move into park though. The problem was a broken bracket under the cab, part number 70264913. It didn't cost too much and considering what a complicated little thing it is, I was glad I didn't have to fix or replicate the old one.

Unbolt seat to gain access to the inspection plate in the floor board
There’s enough room in the cab that you can scoot the seat around without taking it out of the cab I’ve done that in the field before to put the cable back in the bracket the zip tie had broken letting the cable come out. Make sure zip ties are on cable then check movement

Finally got around to check the 8050 not going not park. After removing the seat and the access panel it was easy t see the issue. The cable had come out of its holder therefore it could not move the shifter to park. Placed it back in the holder and crossed 2 zip ties to hold it in place. Works like it should. I’m going to look in AGCO parts book to see if there is an actual fastener for it. Regardless, he is back in business just in time to round bale. Thanks for everyone’s input.

They used cable ties like candy. Quick and easy and really did last a very long time but age does get to them.
