    Posted: 05 Jun 2017 at 11:17am

Just received a "new to us" 8030 2wd with the power director transmission.  It shifts into all the gears and ranges just fine with the exception of Park.  it does not seem to want to go into park at all.  It seems that something is in a bind.  Before I pop the top of that portion of the transmission to take a look, is there anything else that I can look at or should be looking for?  The cables and linkage appear to be intact and working like the should.

Thanks

I know that on the Powershift Transmission the shift cable/linkages need to be in their proper path, and held down with clips in order for it to shift right.  I wonder if the Power director is the same way.
We had to replace the cable on our 8010, and it took a while to get the cable into all the proper hold downs.  Once done, the thing shifted great.

If you haven't already, pull seat and floor mat out. Remove inspection cover from cab floor. Now work the range lever left, right. There is a cable on top of trans that is held in place with wire clips that rust in two over time. If the cable is out of the tang, the tractor wont go into park. We've replaced several of these clips with a good heavy duty zip tie.
Good luck

I'll bet when you try and put it in "park", you are really in "low" range (if you'd try and drive it). This means the problem is probably related to the side-shift cable not doing its job.

I did remove the seat and access panels. I found the cable retainer was gone and the cable was way out of adjustment. It currently goes into park and the aftermarket heavy duty zip ties have been installed.

Thanks for the help

That's what this site is for, helpling the next guy with a problem you've already had to figure out. Glad it was an inexpensive  fix.  Although. getting the seat out of the cab is no easy task.

Good old wire wire last longer than zip ties.   MACK
