    Posted: 09 Jun 2016 at 10:59am
Got a question about my air conditioning on my 8010. I bought this tractor about 10 years ago. The air conditioner worked but was not very cold, and the low and high side pressures were within tolerance. Last year the compressor went out and I replaced all the parts of the system. It still only got a little cool. My question is am I flowing enough air through the condenser? Why I am wondering this is because on a 90+ day It will overheat.

Your radiator core must be clean to pull air thru the condenser. All your radiator seals (top, bottom, sides) must be in place to pull air thru the condenser. Your fan shroud has to be there and in good condition as do both of your side hoods.

Thanks for the reply Dr. Allis. I put new foam all around when I replaced the water pump and had the radiator cored. Also I did as you suggested a while back and put new pullies on it. Nothing seems to work that's why I thought I may not be getting enough air flow. I took the thermostats out before I replaced everything so I need to put them back in and see how it works. Also I bought a condenser from AP air to add to the one that's there. We'll see how that works.
Thanks

Low side pressure should be 15-30, high side should be 160-200, or close to 100* over ambient. Make sure your evap isn't plugged with dirt either. I've seen that a lot. Prevents good cooling and good air flow.

in the humid south with 134a , a 134a expansion valve,  we like to see 225 on a 90 degree day.  Close the door and leave the blower on low, the low side should go down to about 12 -15 psi and the thermostat should kick the compressor off.   IF your radiator is clean, the coolant flow is good, you may have a timing issue... too advanced a timing will have a ping to it and cause overheating.  you have had the hp checked?

I cut hay with my 8050 and 13' disc bone yesterday 90 deg with the fan on the 2nd setting and got cold. I had to turn the temp down. We replace the compressor 3 years ago along with dryer and new expansion valve. I had it at 225 on the high side and 22 on the low. Only has factory evaporator and condenser. I also take the top off the cab every couple years and blow out the condenser. It didn't get up to half way on the temp gauge.

What were you doing with it. Where you loading the engine to get it hot.

We would install ball valves on the heater hoses going to cab. That helps with air temp. Butt if the tractor is over heating you have other problems that need to be addressed.

I use it on a 12ft diskbine. I can cut all morning but by 1 in the afternoon I have to shut it down. I come back about 4 and cut till dark. I checked the pressures last night and the low side was about 40lbs. I'll reduce it tonight. It's really not that bad, just doesn't get as cold as it should. I thought about the timing being off, but don't really know how to check or adjust.
Thanks

Did this tractor originally have R-12 refrigerant? If it did for sure change the expansion valve. It'll never get cold if you don't. Also adding ball valves to the heater hoses is a good suggestion. Factory heat controls have a habit of not closing all the way, if at all.

I replaced the dryer and expansion valve when I replaced the compressor. I got all the parts from Abilene Machine. Just figured the valve was for 134. How do you tell the difference? Also put ball valve in heater hose as well.
Thanks

Most valves now are for 134. What was your High side at?

Carl I couldn't check the high side. The o-ring fell out of the fitting and I couldn't find it. I have a box of green AC O-rings, but the fitting must have had a special size cause I couldn't find one the would fit. I'm going to try and find one today that will work. Thanks for the help.
