 Topic: 8000-25 grain head orbital reel opinions

Possibly looking to upgrade our combine. Looking at R62's. Found an R62 that has an 8000-25 Gleaner grain head with the orbital reel. A dealer with a different R62 and 8000-25 grain head said he's not sure I'd like the orbital reel. We currently have an L3 and know nothing about the orbital reel other than it is supposed to "kick" the beans over the sickle and has more wear items and requires more maintenance. We are leaning towards a lateral tilt system also. Any advice or input is welcome. Thanks all Leon B MO

Buy an OEM head with or add an AWS system.

The 8000 head doesn’t need the orbit reel.

victoryallis. please explain the OEM head and the AWS system. I am new to anything after the 80's. cwhit, this machine comes with the orbital reel and I don't know if I want it or keep looking for a better package. Leon B MO

Year ago I replaced my 520 with a 8000 25 foot with a Advanced Wind Systems air bar. It eats beans!! We used feeder house reverse 3 times all season before 3 times each round wasn’t uncommon. Saves beans too now the thrashed beans in the head roll back and get ingested instead of rolling off the front of the cutterbar. If you give me an email I can send pics.

Yep we run a 525 on our 62 with a crary air bar and I call it the poor mans draper. Beans just plain feed with a air bar. 65 bu beans and we were running 4-4.5 mph

I have a r62 with 30 foot 800 with Crary air reel and S&I sickle ,love it ,had m2 before, r62 has controls for reel built in , can run two ways , on auto it runs ground speed or you can run variable speed ,drilled beans 10 inch rows 60-70 bushel also moving 3.8-4.5 mph enclosed Sunny Brook rotor , could run faster but sickle doesn't do a good job faster

Leon, you’re going to love the R62. But if you want the best bean head there is nothing better than a Draper if you can afford one. When we had our 62 I pushed a 300 a 500 and then finally an 8000 series head. LOVED the 8000. But unless you cut perfect beans, you never want to kick a 9 to 10 % bean. They bounce off everything and you’ll hate that . Like the others have mentioned, an air reel is the next best option. Currently we run a R66 with a full finger 8200 that I despise. Does the same thing too much shatter. If I win the lottery the first thing I buying is a draper. Lol

The draper heads are out of our price range. My original post was is the orbital reel 8000 head a good unit or stay away from it. It comes with an R62 that I'm looking at but if its a pos I'll pass on the whole thing. This package does not include a head with an air reel.
