 Topic: 8000 series PS or PD best for loader work?

Handiest transmission to have on a 8000 series Allis if putting a loader on the tractor, power director or power shift? Thoughts, opinions, experiences?

I have a loader on a PS 8010, biggest thing I don't like is hi reverse is to fast, low range is really slow, and its hard to 'feather' the clutch/inching pedal when stacking large square bales. Can't say anything for the PD trans...

I think PS would be handier for shifting, PD sometimes shift hard if not adjusted just right.

7040 Power Director floor shift. Right hand runs the hydraulics and left hand does the shifting.

ill second the maroon belly floor shift. We have one we use for occasional work isnt too bad. would be miserable with black belly T handle
oops not 8000 series lol

Not an 8010 PS and especially not an 8010 PS-FWA. Not enough engine for backing up at part throttle all the time in my opinion.

i had a loader on both my 7020 PD and PS. no comparing, really! PS everyday. i better rethink my FWA loader tractor. my loader would fit a 8010 FWA and had thought about it. maybe i'll just retire. as far as AC PS ground speeds go; someone wasn't thinking the day, they made those decisions.

7045 PS runs my loader. You will never ever grind a gear with a PS. Don't think you can say that about a PD. Both of our 8070's have diff. lock front axles. They would not lend well to a loader while in reverse and trying to turn.

Never used a PS but always heard what Tom says to be the down side.Get along fine with my PD.Pick your ground speed.Only going to or from field is when it's not so handy.

I vote put a set of Black Belly steps on a 7000 series maroon belly PD tractor. I love the stick in the floor for yard use.

Definitely powershift. Put 20.8x38 on the rear and 11.00x16 multi rib on front. Then install a foot throttle and stay on dry land! Or frozen! Anything in-between and you'll go down like a rock. It's very good as a haying tractor and will pull a freight train load of hay down the road. I normally haul 19-21 round bales on a two wagon setup.
