 Topic: 8000 air conditioning

My air conditioning compressor failed over the weekend. Machine had a Harrison compressor w 134a? Anyone know where to find a Harrison or what is a good retrofit kit?

Ours has a sanden on it. Works good and better than what it came with from factory.

It is probably just an A6 compressor or R4 compressor. Pretty common. If you need something right away, the local auto places will carry them, look up an early 80s chevy truck/van/sedan. If you want to go with the new sanden style replacement, look up the Four Seasons 58096. I decided to go with a reman A6 for a little under $100 from the local Advance Auto (look online for coupon codes, order online and pickup in store, you can save 30-40%, btw). I figured I'd try my luck at a rebuilt American-made compressor than a new Asian-made compressor, but that's just me. If it completely failed, replace the receiver/dryer and expansion valve with the compressor, and flush both the evaporator and the condenser cores while you have the hoses unhooked (and flush out the hoses as well) before drawing a vacuum. Make sure you add oil to the compressor. PAG150 is what the A6 typically calls for in new r134a systems. If you want to get savvy, you can charge them with r152a, but that is a whole other topic. Look up r152a computer duster refrigerant and you'll find all sorts of information.

If you haven't a lot of experience with A/C follow Hurst's instructions exactly and you will not have any problems. I might add that you replace all the o-rings if they have them. If you don't you'll be sorry, and I'll be saying, '' I TOLD YOU SO''. O, the new refrigerant is the way to go.

I forgot to add that I always used brake clean and air to flush with. Lot's cheaper and I've used it on minor clean ups to major blow ups like yours. Tape the stem to the valve cause they can fly off. Keep flushing until it blows clear and then until dry. Brake clean leaves no residue behind.

plus 1 on the orings. I did our 8070 this winter with sanden. it says comes with orings. Only 2 came with the kit and needed 4. Plus replaced expansion valve and dryer. Orings don't come with those parts either from agco. I put together with old orings and sucked it down and recharged it. I left on a military trip for 3 months and when came home it was totally depleted. It had a little in it before I started so now need to go get the orings for all the parts I had apart. hopefully that solves the leak.
