Going to get back with seller to start tractor and move it around. $3000 is his price. Would like input. Thank you. Serial number 8834. Looks like everything is with tractor. Ac components. Seat is great. Has decal on it from dealer in seguina,Texas.

The idler gear can be replaced from the top without a huge expense or major effort. However, the gear on the main shaft, or even worse, the countershaft,is a complete tear down of the rear end assembly.

I have over 7000 hours on my black belly 7000. It has been a great tractor. Other than a torque limiter and a hydraulic pump, I haven't had any other problems with it. It has the 4x3 trans which is really nice for haying, etc. Used to do all of my field work so it hasn't had a real easy life, but has held up well.

We have a 7000 with the 4-3.  It's main job is on the 12' hydaswing haybine.  The range thru the 3 speeds are perfect.

Buy it, restore it, use it for the next 20 years. I sure wish I had my dads 7000.

We had a 7000 with reverse noise. It lasted for a few years, but gradually started poping out of reverse until it no longer worked. I guess I never looked into the idler as mentioned above.

Alex, was that a floor shift maroon belly tractor? If so, what happened was seats got moved to far forward, physically restricting the shifter from moving the mechanism to engage reverse fully. My dads 1976 7000 maroon belly he bought new had 3000 hours no trans issues. It wasnt the main workhorse, on a 700 acre grain farm, it was THE workhorse. Those who operated that beautiful, light, feisty, smooth running, handy, fuel sipping little torque monster, we all are over 6 foot. So, seat back, no troubles. I think people also unduly ground them into reverse...
I believe the black body 7000 had the shifter moved to the console, so except for cable adjustment, it should be o.k.  jmho, TREV

Sorry guys been busy. So I was able to run this 7000 and the transmission needs rebuilding. Reverse is gone and 4th is sluggish and grinding in other gears, plus brakes need attention. I did call down to Alvin Martin and talk to Paul about this tractor. Not sure on pulling the trigger. The seller did say he would take $2500 cash.
