7060 Injection Pump trouble |

Hey all,
We have a friend that is having a heck of a time with the injection pump on his 7060. It will get fuel to the injectors, but it will not run. return has been un-hooked, check ball in return fitting has been removed, etc. He has had the pump into Denver 3 or 4 times, and has dumped about a grand in it. The weird thing is, it had no timing marks, so he had the pump shop add them. When trying to start it, it has broke the little pin off the coupler once or twice, so he had the shaft replaced thinking it might have been bent. He says that there is no air in the fuel, and the primer pump leaks a little when pulled out, but seals well and gets hard when pushed in. Any ideas guys? My personal thoughts were something is messed up internally and he should get a good used takeoff pump, but he was hoping to see this one through, mostly due to the $ spent on it. Any input appreciated, thanks! |

this whole problem smells funny to me. No timing marks? Really? you just can't see them. There's something we're not being told here. With spending that kind of money in Denver, and no results yet, I'd keep taking it back and make them make it right for you. Something is fishy here!

I agree, I think after time 2 or 3 I would find another shop.
Supposedly this guy had to call another shop to see how to add the marks. Even if the timing was way off, why was it shearing the pin though? |

must not be going to Central Motive Power. Who knows what is going on here. If it's been sitting and is gummed up, did they service the injectors too? Maybe they are so stuck, it keeps shearing the hub pin. The pin is only there to locate the hub to the shaft, not meant to drive it. If the hub isn't torqued tight enough, and the injectors are stuck shut, I could see this happening. This is exactly why if I get a pump in my door all gummed up, I insist on having the injectors brought in too. You've got to fix the whole package. No point in removing the return check ball on a DM, there's no flex ring to come apart and plug it.

Well guys, I think we are onto something.
He called back asking about timing, I looked up in the Allis factory service manual, and come up with 18 degrees BTDC. He says he has it at 10 degrees "Above" TDC. I have never heard anyone refer to it as above, so I ask him about it. We talk back and forth for a little, and I "think" he is meaning Before, but I have a feeling he is confused by the marks and is putting it 10 degrees ATDC, when it should be 18 deg. BTDC. He figures the pump is fine, as he finally cracked all 6 lines loose and has pretty strong flow to them. has the aux. tank bypassed and 30 gallons of fresh fuel in the main tank. He says it will run on ether, and when he quits giving it ether, it will spit out a little puff of black, but wont try to keep running. The tractor only sat 2 years, but that was long enough for the pump to quit working I guess. He wants to pull the injectors now, but I am trying to convince him to hold off till he can re-time it and try again. |

if it's running with ether, then it is probably getting some fuel throough the injectors. They usually wont even run on ether if there is no fuel at all. Your problem sounds like it is out of time like you're thinking. 18* Before Top Dead Center (BTDC) is correct for a 7060, no matter which of the 5 revised pumps is on it. If it's a 7050, or 7080 pump on it, then it will need timed according to the pump.
