Hi, I sure could use some advice. I got a maroon belly 7060, its a pretty good old tractor but it has developed a bad problem when I take off.  It has the manual transmission with the 5 speed and power director and hi-lo set up. ( I think they called it a 20 speed?)  When you are standing still and put it in gear, release the clutch it just kind of clumps along like its slipping but if you throttle it up to 1800 or so it kicks in solid and runs just like it should.  The big problem is when you come to the end of the field pulling something you need to slow down to turn because then your power gets mushy like it is low on fluid until you give it throttle again. I checked the fluid and eventually changed it and the filter, looked for the obvious stuff but don't see anything.  There is no weird sounds or smells and when it kicks in solid it works just perfect, I am wondering if there is some sort of hydraulic issue not moving something until it builds pressure but that is only a guess?  Any help would be very much appreciated, thank you.

You're saying the engine power is fine but something seems to slip in drive train at lower rpm?

Where are you checking the oil ?? and where is the filter you changed ??   It sounds like old/ hard/ worn piston seals in the Power Director clutch low range. Also, the tranny supply pump could be worn out.

I have a 7040 pd with a similar issue will pull with out slipping but certain times when I idle down it acts like it’s in neutral until I bring the rpms back up? (I don’t actually sit there I rev it up as soon as I notice it happening any ideas?)

Tranny pump worn and leaking seals inside the Power Director clutch.

I'm with the Dr. Rebuild PD and torque limiter first. Rubber sealing rings get so hard they break.    MACK

Does it slip with the power director in high too? I had a tractor that slipped and if it was in high it would shift itself into low when the rpms dropped. I put another pump on it and it fixed it. My 1800 oil pressure light someone unhooked after it melted the indicator from staying on all the time.

Single split and two people to pull it out. That's all the further I was ever into one being the youngster at an Allis shop. And in the 4 years I worked there I remember only one 7000 series, a 7040, having a power director issue and that one just needed resealing and maybe some plates. I was usually saddled with 170 thru 200 tractors and lots of lawn mowers. I'm more familiar with those Power Directors and they were fairy simple too but it's been since the 1990's when I was last into one of those as I went from mechanic to factory assembly & welder to CaseIH parts man to research lab assistant. That last jump was like entering a different galaxy.

Get an Allis service manual. Follow directions. It isn't difficult but you better have that manual. It is HEAVY. I used a truck trans jack with a fabbed bracket to remove/install working by myself. Had no special tools but may have improvised....been too long a go to remember details.
