We were cutting hay with the discbine and the pin that holds the swinging drawbar locked - broke. The hitch swung to one side and the pto pulled apart while running at 1000 rpm.   The tractor half of the pto is finished (easily replaced for $1300) but the tractor has a problem too.

First, the pto shaft twisted.   Easily replaced with new bolts.

Second, the pto seal now leaks.

Third, the pto turns hard and rough.

What's your best guess?

New seal(s), bearing(s) or even more like a gear or the pto clutch pack?

I'm taking it apart today...

if this is anything like my father in laws 7010 you probably hurt the internal shaft.

all I can remember is having my wisdom teeth pulled the day before and laying under that thing tasting blood the whole time.

there was a access plate, drain the rear. the shaft had a clip that held it in and cone bearings. let me see if I have any pix of the process.

it wasn't horrible, but not fun either.

Never seen an accident like that, but I'd guess it may have bent the 1000 RPM shaft inside. Drain oil, remove drawbar and then the cover plate above the drawbar and start the tearapart. Is tearapart a word ??……….

It’s acceptable terminology when working on old equipment and houses

wow, I found the info. surprised I still have it.

this may be impossible for me to share. here is a photo of 5 or 6 pages Wonsidler Bros sent me. if you think this may help, I can try and photo the rest of them. I don't have an ez way to scan them

as I recall, I replaced shaft #5. you un-do nut #4 and remove the pin #2 that is safety wired in. there were a couple of bearings to deal with, but nothing horrible.

if that photo works, let me know and I can try and photo the rest of the info I have

Yes, the #5 shaft was bent about 1/8" on the end. Bearings pitted. Gears looked fine.

Thanks, Rusty.   You had the right pic.

The nut was just staked.   The newer ones had the wired nut.

It was a bear of a job to get it out. I had a 3/4 ton come along tied to the end of it and tapped it repeatedly until it came.

$1075.34 new or approx 1/2 that at the wreckers...

Just keep reminding ourselves we're making $100/hr, when we do it ourself!

glad it helped. I don't recall it being a giant pain, just fiddly. my father in laws shaft actually broke, victim of too tight a turn with a baler on the back as I recall. I ended up putting a new shaft in and remember it being very expensive.

Wow, this exact same thing happened to me this weekend with the bolts holding the swinging drawbar. But mine snapped into 2 pieces. I am assuming that I can use the same directions for taking it out. Mine is an 8030 with 2 speeds, the diagram in the parts book is identical to this one.

Drawbar removed, drain rear end, remove plate. Wire off of nut, remove nut and then it will just push right out?? Not sure on the push right out part lol, but does the rest sound about right?

When I get "part #5" to come out, will anything above all fall down? Or will this piece push out the front and then just push back in when replaced?

I'm gonna start the teardown tonight hopefully. Here is a pic of what happened to mine..

Thanks for any tips.
Keith
