I was leaving a friends farm, slowed down for the gate and then noticed my gear shift flopping around, it's in 2nd gear right now.. and gear lever moves around freely.. would it just be a shift fork came out?

Still drives fine, we parked it by his shop, going to pull top of trans cover off tomorrow probably.
I admit I do "float" the gears Like a truck when I'm in high range so maybe that caused it.

Bottom tip of the gearshift broken off. Remove shift lever and fish it out with a magnet.

Well, I doubt if you can buy a "new" one. Good and used will be what you'll have to settle for.

We got it out, I welded it for now to move around.
Any idea what type of steel or just regular mild?
I'll call the wreckers about one, but if it's just regular steel I'd be a lot more confident in the weld holding.

I could get by with a toothpick. Others can break an anvil. It's all about how rough you get with it.

Yeah I'll likely leave it.  Not that rough with it myself.

Was there any trick with lining up the 2 little square stoppers that prevent the shifter from spinning? Took a bit getting it lined up without moving them
