Just curious back when the 7030s and 7050s came out what was the plow furrow rating?
Run a 5x18'' Ih plow with my 7040 and does it with ease other than traction climbing some short but steep hills.

Picked up a 7045 and 7050 last week, Just got to thinking how cool it would have been to see the 7050 come out, A big tractor for 1973. I'd think it would run 6x18'' in my ground.
Any one remember farmers reactions to the 7030 and 7050s?
How were they compared to Deere, Ih and ford?

In 1973 had a neighbor trade his 4020 for a new yet to be built 4430. Dealer took the 4020 and sold it. Time to farm and no 4430 so he went to the AC dealer and bought a new 7030 off the lot. Farmed with it that summer when the 4430 came. Kept both tractors for a year. Used both for various jobs. Liked the 7030 better. Sold the deere and kept the 7030.
Steve

In this area 7030 were pulling 5x18's and 7050 pulled 6x18's.

I got a 7030 new in Jan of 74, first one in this area as tractors were hard to get. At that time we plowed everything every fall, I pull a 7 bottom IH trailer type, was really too much but made it work. Had to weight it down a lot but really never had any trouble. I think we quit plowing when it was about 4 years old, went to chisel plow then. Had a friend who bought a new 1466 and pulled 7 bottom, another had a 4430 JD and had a 6 bottom semi-mount with onland hitch. I guess at the time I thought it was good but as I got older it was really overloaded. Just my thoughts.
At the time I got the 7030, I was dealing on a 9600 Ford, if they had been able to point at the tractor I would have bought that but was just a spring delivery, neighbor did buy one and got it in Sept or Oct.

Summer of 1976 (I think). Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, Davenport, Iowa.  Grand National NTPA Tractor Pull.  The 10,000 lb OPEN class where twin-turbo diesels ran against Modified tractors with Allison engines. One of the McKinnon's (Don, Bennie or Herb) had a twin-turbo 7050 and full pulled on his first hook, easily dragging the sled past 300 ft. But earlier in the class,  a G-1000 MM with a 1700 cubic inch V-12 Allison aircraft engine had also full pulled it.  Judges brought them both back and weighted the sled heavier. The MM went first and once again drug it past 300 ft.  McKinnon had time to refill his ice water tank for the intercooler and hooked to the sled. He started in low button on the PD clutch and quickly shifted into high button before he went 75 ft, running at least 4th gear but maybe 5th. Well, what do you know !!!  He drug it past 300 ft and they had to pull it off again !!   Third time around the Allison finally beat the 7050 and I imagine the Power Director clutch had a lot of life taken out of it that night.  What I remember for sure, the crowd went wild both times the 7050  drug it past 300 ft !!

Cool hearing the stories!

Wow DrAllis, Fun hearing about that pull! I wonder what happened to that 7050? Be crazy seeing a Twin turbo setup on one.

Reed impliment in New Virginia Iowa had a 7050 sitting on his lot. Dad's old D19 had dropped a sleeve for the second time. The 7050 tractor needed to be sold that week or it needed to be moved to another dealership. Had a cab on it. Dad had to haul feed 5 miles 1 way every day starting in the fall for 200 head of cows. He did this for years. This was before tractors started to jump in price. Jim shot dad a real deal on it. Dad chose to go to a sale and buy an early XT. No cab. Every fall the heat houser got put on and he made that trip 2 times a day. He always regretted not buying the 7050. His xt dropped the motor a year or two after he bought it. It had the wrong dipstick in it. AC recalled them and put the right dipstick in them. His did not get recalled. 5 or six years later gears went out on the front of the motor. He bought a used motor from a salvage lot. He wound up with a lot more money in this early XT than he would have spent on the 7050. He put 3 or 4 sets of Goodyear tires on the back of the XT, 18.4x34's. It had 750x18's on the front. I did get him a pair of those and put on it.
