Working on new to me 7040 tonight and the PTO won’t stay engaged. Check the cable operation for some detent mechanism and I assume the PTO valve is the set up to hold pto on? I bought the tractor Sunday and the service manuel I ordered should be here Thursday but looking for suggestions. Thanks

Standby pressure may be too low. Should be 400PSI or as close to 600 with out going into high pressure. MACK

make sure the valve is fully energized via cable adjustment. Pressurized oil keeps the valve engaged. I the spool is not fully seated it will pop out - if it is adjusted correctly the you have a pressure problem. Sometimes when the diff lock is pressed it will pop out the PTO... there is a bulletin on that.
