i have a marron belly 7040 with 10,000+hrs on it. going down the road i'll pull up to stop, push in the clutch and let out no movement? i have steering i have brakes. if i hit the high side button on the floor it will jump and start moving normal. im assuming my low side of my power directory needs resealed? if thats the case is it a hard job and can a shade tree mechanic myself do this? and if so how many hrs? thanks Nick

Have you checked pressures at the PD valve yet?
To your question...
Not terribly hard to do, IF you have the proper splitting stands, and I would highly recommend the Power Director lifting tool with hoist, or make something. Even two strong guys, it would be a bear, and you won't enjoy aligning the splines to put it back together.
As for special tools, mostly just a large press, but if you are careful you can drive out the front hub, and drive it back in, but a press makes it so much easier, and makes sure you don't damage something.
You really should have the factory service manual.
All the parts you will need are still available from AGCO
Take a long hard look at your torque limiter, now would be the time to replace.
If you do both the Power Director, and the Torque limiter, AND you have the proper tools and facilities, it can be done in two days, but that is optimal, and you have all the new parts all ready to go.

ok thanks i was also looking at the valve that is ran by the foot buttons is there any thing that could of went wrong in the control valve? the reason i ask is that i can by playing with the tractor get it into the low side and i can stand on the brake or put a load on it and it holds it dont slip or any thing. didnt know if part of my problem could lie with the hydrolic foot valve?

That is why I asked if you have verified any pressures. It is entirely possible the problem lies in the valve.
That being said, with those kind of hours, and the age of the tractor, the PD seals are likely hard as a rock, and could use replacing, but as the old saying goes, if it aint broke???

orange blood i found a salvage yard open today i went down to purchase the power director valve ($150) i came home and started to take mine off and take a $150 dollar chance as i had both of them upside down i noticed thru the oil passage holes all the valves looked good but one, so i took my 1 1/4 wrench took off the end plug and found a spring broken in 3 places and the bottom of the poppet valve chewed up. im hoping this is my problem and debris didnt make it down to the directory. thanks for all the help.
