Got every thing done, (except for the cab kit) on the 1976 7040 that I talked with every one about last April.  Turned out great(better than expected).   Will get pictures on here shortly.   Have already taken it to a couple of local show's here in  North Central Kansas  &  thinking about another one on Saturday!    This show encourages implement's  behind the tractor.    Does any one out there know how many bottoms were recommended  for average tillage?   I happen to have a very nice 4-16, 3 point plow in nearly new shape ,  but don't want to disgrace the tractor by putting to small of a plow behind it.    "BTW"  the plow is set up for a 5th bottom to be bolted on, on the rear end & I am looking for the add-on bottom if anyone knows of one for sale!       Thanks ,  Housemover          P.S.S.   Also have access to a A/C 12'  Chisel  (the one with long shanks that was made for Allis by Jeffery's).    Would that be a close fit?

A 5-16 would be a good match. You may want to give some idea as to brand and model number to find an add on bottom.

Original sales brochures show a 7030 with a 7 bottom. I wouldn't try pulling a 7 bottom for long with a 7040 but in our soil a 7030 or 7040 would be perfectly comfortable with a 5x18.

5 x 18, or maybe 6x16.  4 x16's looks like a toy behind a 7045.

Moldboard plowing was almost obsolete when we sold 7040's. That being said, when a new plow was sold with a 7040, we went with a 5 x 18's semi mounted model. The tractor would pull it well and as deep as you wanted, which if one was still moldboard plowing, they wanted it DEEP.

At my Dad's dealership, when the 7030's first came out, they were paired with a 5-18" semi-mounted Monoframe plow.  I can't remember for sure if it was a 2000 series or not, but I think so.

Thanks Guys,   I myself had thought that a 5X16, or 5X18 would be the right counter part for the 7040.    Never was one to load any piece of equipment over 75-80 % of capacity.   North Central Kansas has it's share of clay & black gumbo!    That being said I also know men who placed an 7X14 or 16 behind a D-21.   Some folks just have a knack for pushing things to the limit.     To answer the question on model of my plow ,  I'm not sure but I do know it's the one that was sold new with the late A/C 200 tractors just prior to the 70 Series being offered.    And I know that it's not the mono-beam plow.   It has a 4"-5" square tube mounted on top of the frame that looked similar to the older 3 & 4 bottom plows in the 60's & early 70's.   It is semi-mounted, 3-point, with the plate on the rear end to remove the tail wheel & bolt on another bottom.    Thanks Again,    Housemover

Housemover, Sounds like you are enjoying your 7040 - Congrats!  Is it a Power shift 12 speed or Power direct 20 speed trans? Does it have the power shift rear wheels or non-power adjustable rear wheels? The power shift wheels make for quick work of moving the right rear wheel into plow furrow if its a semi-mounted plow. Or maybe if you're just setting it up for shows with plow, then it may not matter?
Here's a pic from an October 1974 AC brochure.

I pull 5x18 ih 710 plow with my 7040s.   No probably at all 8-10 inches deep in my soil. Could probably pull 6x18s but that would be harder on the tractor. I think 5x18 is a great match for the tractor.

Doubt if it will work but I have an extra bottom from a 70 series plow. Not real far from you...east of Beatrice, NE.
