 Topic: 7020 PS vs. 7030 PD

I'm really looking for a 7060, but I've come across a 7020 with a PS trans and a 7030 with the Power director. Both tractors are in similar condition and priced the same. I'd prefer the PS trans, but I'd put up with another PD if there's enough extra HP to notice.

7020 has a 301 motor, 7030 and up has the 426. Big difference depending on what you want to do.

Charlie, I see that, but I only see 8 HP difference in the test data. Does the 426 have more difference in practice?

The 426 is the same motor as that a 7060 has. The 7030 is basically the same tractor as a 7060. The only difference would be a 7060 would have an intercooler on the motor

The rear end is heavier on 7045-50-60. The 7010-20-30-40 have a similar, but a lighter rear end than its bigger brothers.

Buddy of mine who has 8 AC will tell you that the grunt of the 426 will out do the 301 any day. 301 is OK for baling hay and work where you keep the rpm up but if you need low end torque, you have to have a 426. He has ran a 7010 and owns 3 7040.

If it's for tillage, get the PD.If for tillage get the bigger engine. My 135hp220 has had 170hp for yrs.Turn it up a little.

The powershift will allow you to cheat not having the torque. What is your application. That will dictate what you can get away with. Our 7020 has no fluid or additional weight. We pull a 12row 6100 white planter with 2x liquid tanks and insecticide, chop stalks and pull a 500 bushel wagon of corn.

Well, I already have a PD 7020. It is just a bit undersized for my current tillage equipment, but I'm able to get by. I'd like to be tractored up enough to get a bit bigger field cultivator and disk if the right piece comes along though. I'd like to be able to put a 28' FC with an 8 bar harrow, but...
I'd sure like a PS for running the round baler, hauling wagons and on the manure spreader. So, maybe I should buy the PS 7020 and then sell the PD after I find a PD 7060.

the 7030 is the first of that style of AC. the 7020 is probably 5-8yrs newer. the PD on the 7030 is the old style, nothing like your 7020 PD, if you have the 20 speed. 7030 is the red belly and 7020 is a black belly.

buy them both , swap the engine on the 7030 into the 7020 and vice versa , sell the 7030 as a 7010 pd...to get some $ back..
