Now that I have the motor out of my 7020, what should I do to the transmission while it's this far apart? Before I had the engine trouble, the transmission gears would grind when it was cold. How do I check the transmission brake?
I also had trouble with the torque limiter slipping. Do I just replace the friction disk and have the flywheel resurfaced? Or do I need to replace the spring washer and pressure plate? Any other "might as wells" while I'm this far in? |

"They" always advise putting new seals in PD clutch. It's not a bad job but I recommend you have an AC shop manual to follow the steps. It is heavy and awkward to pull out/install.You need some kind of jack to attach it to.I used a semi truck transmission jack and made some kind of bracket to affix it with. Don't remember exactly.

I bought a 7060 pd that would grind going into gear, it wound up being collapsed springs in the power director. It does take a special bracket for pd removal to make it manageable. Resealed it and put it back in. I replaced my torque limiter with one from Rick Corder on this site.

Steve, I have an I&T book for it, is that good enough?
Jfreed, still not 100% sure which way I'm going on the motor. Definitely picking up a used combine motor, but might decide to dig into it before it goes in. |

Can't say about your I&T but the ones I've seen for other models leave a lot to be desired. They seem to leave out things that matter. If you know what you're doing already they are helpful but if you ain't never done it...I wouldn't trust it. The AC book goes step by step and gives specs where needed. There are shims that need to be correct and the AC book tells how to measure it out. If it's never been apart and some goofball hasn't touched it (like mine),the original shimming will likely be correct. If I remember right, the shims set brg play between PD and trans....been near 10yrs ago and my memory is fading.

There is mention of how to set the shims, but this would be my first rodeo with a PD unit.

Always replace disc, pressure plate, and grind flywheel. Reseal PD while you are close.
Take all free play out of clutch cable should fix transmission brake. MACK |

Thanks everyone for the helpful information. What's the best source for an AC shop manual? I'm finding a reproduction from Jensales tha claims to be a reproduction of the genuine product and it's a lot more detailed than the I&T that I have. Is this the right thing?

But it from AGCO.It's as good as you can get.The pictures are poor in my opinion. Way to dark for good viewing. I don't know how reprints are.Someone didn't do "do diligence "when putting book together. It's ok but could have been better. These manuals are very good for instruction. If you have mechanical skills and follow instructions, you can make any repair on that tractor.Might have to build a "special tool"here or there but that's life. Sometimes you can borrow such from old dealer. I used fear main install tool from old/ ex dealer.

Paul...Since I seem to only be able to send you a private message when the computer wants me to, just send what you have packaged up there and send it to me. I'll take care of it...thanks. Rick
