My 7010PD (with an L-Combine Simms Injection Pump) started surging today. I am a novice with Diesel engines. Any common issues that cause this? It is really noticeable at low to mid RPM with the tractor stopped ( no engine load) I just replaced the fuel filter and installed a new turbo. The air filter looks ok and I cleaned it out about 10 engine hrs ago. It does not overheat and I can see any thing out of order. I put the turbo and new filter on at 5100 engine hours and it has 5120 hours now. Thanks, Roscoe.

I have a 426 On Highway Spec engine with a Simms pump in my 220. It will surge at a slow idle. Crack the throttle a little and it smooths out. I'm sure it's the governor.

Nothing is impossible if it is properly financed

I've got a 7000 that runs with a lope at low rpm but it has almost double the hours. So that could be expected?
At 5000 hours it should still run smooth. I would suspect the governor...check valve...fuel line...hose clamp..or any fitting in-between. Does everything look clean? |

I will check all the fittings this morning. The #1 outlet fitting on the pump does look wet.
This surging is new, it just started, so this is not normal. But most likely a pump or fuel problem, and not a turbo or air problem? Thanks! Roscoe. |

Govenors in Simms pumps are known to wear and cause issues like you describe. My 545B loader w/301 has it and surges at idle. If you ever seen the govenor you'd just shake your head.
