I don't see a stick shift in the floor, which a maroon belly would have.

Check all the fluid levels to make sure you don't oil bypassing between compartments.  That can be a pretty labor intensive fix.  Make sure that the power shift shifts firmly and smoothly.  Make sure the inching pedal gives you good control over the clutch.  It should have a sweet spot a little bit before it is all the way out where it will slowly engage.  Make sure the transmission brake is working (if not, you could be looking at a tractor that has been ground into gear).  Check for any leaks.  301s will tend to have a little blow by even when fresh, but exceissive blow by is not good.  If it's a healthy engine with a good starter that cranks quickly, it should be fine starting unassisted to 40ish degrees.  The T-shifter can be a little difficult to get used to, but if it's in good working order is not really much of a problem.  Make sure the tractor goes into park and reverse.  Grinding into reverse will kill the reverse idler (chew up the teeth), which is something that can be replaced without a major tear down on most tractors (some tractors the reverse idler shaft doesn't like to just push out).  They were a solid tractor, even more solid if taken care of.  The open station one on craigslist looks good, but its hard to tell if that's just a quick paint job to cover up something.  At that price, you really can afford to go into the tractor and do some work (engine can be redone in most cases for around $2500 including head job and some machine shop outsourcing).  Transmission tends to be pretty reliable, and the rear end is strong.  The biggest problems I have had with mine have been soft parts mostly (seals, gaskets, etc.).  Did the engine, powershift, and reverse idler in addition, but my tractor probably didn't see the best service earlier in its life.  Feel free to PM me with any more questions.  If you're near midway during Thanksgiving, I should be home from Wed thru Sunday, and I'd be happy to go over these things on my 7000 black belly.
