I've found a military 7ooo that I'd like to put in my 6g. It appears that the front shroud over the radiator is designed to tilt down, allowing the moter to be slid out forward. Should I anticipate any difficulties in making this swap? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Redmouintain 1: This is a good topic to raise, I am looking for a donor engine for a 50's Buda D344 engine that is seized, the military option would seem like a viable solution if the swap is able to be made, fuel, mounts, etc.  but since I have not progressed with that kind of detail, I unfortunately do not have any pearls of wisdom to offer.

If you do proceed, keep us posted, I would like to learn more about this subject.

Forward , up, and out. The way it was designed to work on it.
Choice of engine would begoverned by what the bell housing will fit to allow the over center clutch to work and if you have wet ordry clutch

Coke and Orangeman,
I've been a woodworker all my life. Little mechanical experience. I retired 8 yrs ago to put in roads and sites on my place here in Southern Arizona. Out of an estate I bought an hd5 with rippers, an hd21 with rippers and newly rebuilt engine, and an hd6g with rock drill attached and an ingersoll rand compressor with a detroit v-8 to tow behind.

hd6gtom, coke, orangeman,

I keep pressing the wrong button. To continue.
The 6g has a plate with ts6 serial# 4309, Engine serial# 9753 ac 344. Hydreco pump which leaks and I'd like to replace. Hour meter shows 2000+.
I believe this machine was only used to walk the drill to the site and then used the hydraulics to run the drill. There is no wear showing on the machine. The engine runs but is sick.
Today I was able to pivot the front cowel for engine removal but couldn't remove the pivot bolts. Any suggestions?
Center, wet, dry clutches are beyond my knowledge level.
The 344 has a rectangular intermediate bell housing. the 7000 is round but I believe it has provision for motor mounts in the same place.
I'm driving back to Chicago to pick up the 7000 so won't get back to this project for a couple of weeks.
The 344 will be available as well as the rock drill with a couple of hundred feet of drillstem and a huge compressor.
Thanks for the advice.

Red; I have been thinking about this same swap ( there is a 7000 AC motor in Colo. Springs on govt. surplus sale now.) I sure hope the" long tooths "can show the way.

Redmountain1: If you get the 7000 engine, I think the good folks on here could walk you threw the changeout.  Now if only I could find a military 7000  Buda engine on the east coast, that would be a great help.

I tried getting the front cover off of my HD6G and decided against it. Can you tilt it enough to remove the engine without removing the cover? I never had my engine out but did have to remove the radiator. I used a hydraulic jack to move the cover.

Looks like I will be having the engine shipped.  $378 Chicago to Tucson. Freightquote.com
There are 6 of these engines available @ $985 each. Colorado is asking $1800.
Ray Groban, a very nice gentleman, has these. 1 800 621 2405. He is also having copies made of an engine manual made and will sell them at cost.
For great freight rate, call Brian at freightquote extension 1052.
