66 combine tires

   I have a 66 combine with the 4 tire configuration. The previous owner had cobbled together 4 mismatched tires, 3 truck and 1 implement.  I would like to get all 4 the same size without having to buy 4 new 6:50 x16 implement tires if I can avoid it. My manual says the original tires were 6.50x16. The truck tires are close to 30 inches in diameter , a 6:50 is about 26. The large tires won't fit on the front axle on the left side because it is too close to the rear axle. (The tires are on separate axles and one is ahead of and tracks inside of the other) The spacing on the bin side allows a larger tire- go figger.  So, any ideas on where to find a low cost tire that would work?  A quick search isn't turning up any common car/truck tires that I might find used. The right diameters seem to be 14 and 15 inch rim sizes. 

Getting the right tire size will speed the reel up and level the machine out. The mismatch has also caused one of the axle stubs to float and bend one of the flanges on one of the channels and bent the top plate up. Should I heat and beat the channel  and plate to square it up or will that create other problems? I don't want to weaken it. I can pull the stub nearly level with hand pressure. A c clamp would set it perfectly. 

The combine runs great. I would like to keep it working properly without spending a lot until I am ready to go through the whole machine and restore it properly. Thanks for any replies

	When you mention 14 inch or 15 inch, I assume you are talking passenger tires - which would require finding a wheel that is correct bolt pattern and maybe needs to be correct offset. Unless you find them in a junk yard with usable (mismatched?) tires, it would probably end up costing you as much as buying 6.50-16 implement tires new. But if you are considering car tires, our van had P215/65R16 on it - about 27 inches tall. I think I have a set off it you could have if you are close to Louisiana. Better bet might be P205/60R16 which shows as 26 inch OD or P215/60R16 (used on Toyota Camry / Nissan Altima at least up to 2011- try to find a place that keeps a lot of used tires - should be able to pick up for $20-25 each. May be able to find a tire place that does tire work for Nissan / Toyota dealers - if they are selling Certified Used vehicles, they often have to put new tires on if the ones on car are less than a minimum tread depth.

	Thanks for the heads up on the 205-16. Some of the tires were 230 or 35 -16 and way too big. I am in NC so I will look for 205's locally. I did not see a listing for those on a couple of charts that gave tire diameters by size, they only had the big 16's listed.

	only issue s with the 205/60R16 may be radials and width - these are 60 series tires - where the originals would have been the equivalent of 85 or 90 series. They would really like a 5.5 to 7 inch wide rim.

	another option might be military tires - you can often find 6.00-16 nondirectional tread tires - sometimes military surplus.
