My neighbor has a Case 580C loader/backhoe tractor that looks to be very similar in size to the 615 loader/backhoe.  How did they compare in terms of power, reliability, ease of maintenance, operator comfort, capability, etc.?

He's had it since before I was born, so I would assume it is a well built unit.

Dean: I can't offer much on the ease of maintenance - do know that Case is the USA industrial leader in backhoe sales.  The 580 series has been in place for a long time. Something to be said for longevity.

Seems machines have a reputation in the areas they sell in - around here Ford was what one seen to most of , now JD or CAT seems to find favor .
Were not a lot of Case units around - then as I have a AC 715B there were not many of them either .
One thing is the dealer support for a machine which makes it's presence in units one sees on job sites.

If one were to buy a unit now unless there was a big price difference the Case 580 would be the choice just to get parts and service .
When I bought my 715 it was 1/3 the cost of a unit the same size in any other brand as AC hoes were not around and no dealers were in area.

My dad has a 580D (a few years newer), but has the same 207 diesel engine that is around 50 hp.  His has been really looked after all its life.  Starts and runs beautifully and it is very easy to work on.  As far as comfort, it does have a big and roomy operator's station although the cabs are not as cozy as they are today.  However, visibility all around is good.  The only bad thing I've heard about Case units is that the parts are expensive.  Fortunately, they do not have any major problems.  It all depends on how it was used and maintained though.

Tractordata.com can give you some more details about them.

My TWP traded a HD5G loader on a new 580B in 71. Was a good machine. I'd like to have one myself to tinker around the farm.
