I will snap a picture tomorrow, but wanted to post Incase someone had an idea before then.
On the right front of the engine behind the front cover kind of inline with the external thrust bearing bolt on the driver side of the engine. I can only get views of the right front of the engine in the books I have. It looks like a shiney metal pinky sized metal dowel that moves freely. It does not look to be a twisted of bolt. I am at a loss. Any ideas? |

There is dowel pins on both sides of block In front. If it is loose, you will have trouble. It will work gasket out, then start leaking oil behind inj. pump, and will eventually twist inj. pump shaft off. Will also crack oil pan.
Fix is new front plate or rebuild yours, new dowel pins, and hope new pins fit tight in block. Leave front weights off, don't use a front loader, and be careful crossing ditches and terraces at angles. MACK

Here is a picture.
I assume this is the front cover dowel? If so is there somewhere I can get an idea how to rebuild the front cover? What if it does not fit snuggly in the block? This is a major issue any non-rebuild fixes suitable? Thanks, Stephen |

The answer to this is probably no, but I figure I'll ask.
Can I put some locktite in this dowel and push into place from the fuel injector pump side? |

agree best to properly fix it but...... after to clean and locktite it in, is there some way to add a 'bracket ,bar, or ??' to wedge the pin in and prevent it from coming out ? maybe a threaded rod, 2 nuts to force pin back and keep it there ? At least if mechanically secured, it'd buy you some time to research how the 'proper' fix is done. I'm guessing a LOT of stuff HAS to be removed to do it right though..... One of those have to see it to figure out how

If there are no serious oil leaks in the general area (oil pan/timing cover/front plate to block) pound it back in just below flush. Then, lightly peen the blocks hole to keep it from working back out. Keep all timing cover bolts tight, especially the bolts on the external thrust bearing. If this doesn't last, then you'll have to go deeper. I thought this problem was addressed some months ago ??

I did not report back about the oil leaks. I also didn't see this pin until last weekend. What I did: I tighted all front cover bolts to spec., and all oil pan bolts to spec. The engine does not leak at all. I'll see what I can do. Thank you very much for your reply. |
