 Topic: 6080 Round Baler PTO HP Question

I have an opportunity to buy a used New Holland BR750A round baler at a good price. The baler specs are minimum 70 PTO HP. The 6080 on Tractor Data show 83.66 PTO HP. The BR750A round baler weight is also 5,899.60 lbs which also might be too heavy for the 6080 2WD. Will my 6080 2WD handle this round baler or should I pass and wait for another smaller round baler like a BR740A that requires a minimum of 65 PTO HP?
I'm kinda at the chicken or egg which came first dilemma. Do I get a baler now that I can afford or get a bigger tractor and but wait to get a round baler.
I welcome your usual "humble" opinions and advice. -Todd

I like the 4x6 size bales that the 750 makes and you can stop filling if you want them smaller. They have about 113 cu ft in them vs about 78 for the 4x5. less bales to stop and tie or wrap and haul to barn or to feed area. if you are not on hills you ought to be fine on power, add wt to tractor if needed. To many folks around here a bale is a bale no matter the size or wt so smaller is perceived to be more profitable for the seller.

My neighbour has the same tractor and has a Heston 5x6 baler no problems...

Your tractor should easly handle the baler. Does it have fluid in the rear tires of extra weights attached to the rear wheels. It would be nice if it does.

Even though the 6080 was rated at 83.66 PTO HP, many were turned up a little higher either at the factory or when sold. I dynoed mine a few years ago and it was 105 hp without breaking a sweat. The only limitation I would be concerned about is the drawbar. Early models had a very skinny drawbar which was common for breaking. Later models like mine have a much thicker drawbar which was much stronger.

Thank you everyone for your advice. I have fluid in the rear tires and the thicker drawbar so that should help out with the weight concerns I had. -Todd

How are you for hills? Pulling weight on a flat piece of land is entirely a different feeling than getting pushed down a hill
