6080 questions

   Is a 6080 a pretty good tractor if you take care of it? Are they pretty reliable tractors? easy to operate. Easy to work on or service? Wanna look for one in the future sometime to replace the 4020 and 190 and take over a lot of the work that they do. Thanks again! John

	In my opinion they are light years ahead of a 4020. Buddy has a 4020 and is amazed at the 28 applicator I can pull compared to his 4020. We got 2 one has 10,300 hours the other has in the high 8,000 range. Been in the motor of both the lower houred one had a hole in a sleeve the higher hour one was done to reinvest in a critical tractor after a good marketing year.

	Any tractor can be a good tractor if you look after it. If you don't look after it, it will not be very good. The 6080 is very strong for a small tractor. It seems many left the factory running over 100 hp, but it does not feel as rugged as a 190XT to me. These tractors are getting hard to find in good condition. They are out there, but you have to look for them. I am really happy with mine. Very fuel efficient, no problems but it does not get used much. Easy to work on as well.

	Thanks for the good reply! There are some good ones that come out of Lachine Michigan those are pretty nice and I would really like one just to stay away from all the computer junk in new tractors and the cost of the machine is a lot cheaper than buyer a modern tractor. Thanks John

	The 6060-70-80 are Fiat Tractors with a Allis engine. The PTO is an abomination, make sure it works correctly. They have a 2 clutch system. When you look at the tractor, make sure the PTO clutch lever(on the right) is forward and is being run tht way.... except when the PTO is being used. The PTO gear lever is the up and down lever on the left. It should have a bra over the front main. They kept the compression ratio low, so they start hard in the cold. Some had ether and some had pre-heat. May have a tank heater. PM me if you want to be bored with more info. Bill

The 16 to 1's start some better when we bought both ours they were 14 to 1 the lower houred one developed a hole in the sleeve the guy we work with was the mechanic at his dad's AC dealership in the late 70's and 80's. He rebuilt it as a 16 to 1 we liked the way to started and the increased power so we had him rebuild the other one to 16 to 1. Between the 2 we put over 11,000 hours on them the higher hour one has been around here 18 years. The pto is a quirk that is easy to get used to. Mine will start without being plugged in colder than the 8030, 7060, 7000, or the NH 8870. If it's cold 30 minutes with the block heater does wonders.

	We've had one for about 15 years. 2wd with canopy. We got it with 5500 hours and it now has about 7500. The only thing w have done is put a clutch in it. It's an 85 with the high compression engine. It will start down to 20 degrees with glow plugs. It pulls the baler, 15' brush hog and planter. It's one of my favorite tractors. Really nimble for the size and power. We also had a 4x4 with cab for about 5 years but just sold it to upgrade to an 8010. I really hated to see it go but it didn't get used that much. 	The 6080 is a different tractor than the 8010. The 6080 is about half the weight. For some things that's a good thing, its a lot more nimble and has lower gears to make up for the smaller motor. But the 8010 is a lot more stable and has a massively heavier rear end. So it depends on what you're going to use the tractor for. My neighbor used the 6080 for heavy plowing and worked the guts out of it, now that we own it, it gets an easier life pulling a discbine, bale wagon, and in the winter runs a snowblower. Both are decent tractors, but they sure are different.
