6060 pto problems

Hello, first post here. Just bought a 6060 with a pto issue. The previous owner was using it to brush hog and hit a tough spot and said pto just stopped working. I've checked all the linkages and it appears that the clutch is working properly. When I engage the pto with tractor off, there is absolutely no resistance. Has anyone had this problem before? I plan on removing pto to see if a shaft snapped

May have sheared a pin in linkage inside on left side. Pull cover off park brake on left side.            MACK

Curious to how you tested the clutch? With the tractor at idle, I’m guessing that you pulled back the temporary pto disconnect lever on the right? Has the yellow handle. And then pulled up on the pto lever located at the floor to the left of the seat? Did it grind as you pulled up on it? And then release the temporary pto disconnect lever slowly? That’s the proper way of engaging the pto if you followed those steps. Just want to verify that’s how you are engaging it. Previous owner hit a tough spot? Like a stump or rock? Or just thick grass? Asking since you are new to the tractor.

It didn't grind at all. I guess what I meant to say is the clutch disconnect feels like it's functioning properly. Has tension on it when pulling back, and goes front nice. Linkage underneath appears to be moving correctly. As far as the "tough" spot while mowing, that's as much elaboration as I received. I bought the tractor through the owners grandson. The owner is in a nursing home so I didn't get to talk to him really.

That's going to be one of my first moves. I have a feeling it's not going ro be that simple since it stopped working under a heavy load, but time will tell

If it didn’t grind when pulling up on it then like Mack said something is broken. Every 6060-6080 owner that I have talked to, they all grind as the pto lever is engaged. It’s just a nature of the tractor. I normally shut our tractor off to engage just because I do not like to hear it grind. If I remember correctly there is a collar that connects the pto shaft. When we split our 6060 to replace the clutches that is a concern, it will drop out of place if you don’t follow the procedure in the manual. And it’s a bear to get back in place from what I was told. Access to it is at the parking brake access Mack was describing. That was 5 years ago, need to look on AGCO parts books again to see the parts breakdown.

I don’t get the fascination with pulling the side cover.   If you pull the seat and that rectangular piece of tin under the seat there is a square inspection plate.   Pull that plate and you have a birdseye view of the coupler. With that plate off you can manipulate the seasonal disconnect and watch it move. I bought a 6080 that someone had the coupler backwards. I had a great view of what went on.

pulling the parking brake cover requires patients to reinstall in order to line up the brake pads and the discs.Dead

I know its been stated but I'm gonna say it again Confused
with the long handle, PTO hand clutch engaged (on the right side) and the tractor idling, if you pull up on the PTO handle on the left side of the seat you should get a grinding noise. 
(we always shut off our tractor to do this, but its okay for testing purposes) 

It could just be the roll pin that holds the lever to the  collar has broken or fallen out. 
I've  seen it before.

In all the years I've been around Dad's, (now mine) 6080, I've never engaged the p.t.o. Since it is the loader tractor for the farm and plenty of others to do the p.t.o. work, just haven't ever used it for that purpose.

I’d say 1/4 of the hours on our 6060 is pto time.
