my manual has arrived and it shows nothing about this issue, and after a close inspection of the tractors motor i see nothing unusual around the front of the enjine crankshaft, does anyone have a photo of the fix on there tractor so i can see exactly what i am looking for?
thanks

yes the serial number will make it a late 82 model, i thought it was a 80 model, i searched here and found that it was a pto clutch issue, that caused these failures and being that the 6060 had a smaller clutch than the 6080, it was not quite the issues on these tractors provided the pto system was operated correctly,
i have yet to hook to anything here with it yet, but i have fell in love with the way the tractor is set up, i have been looking for a comfortable tractor for me ( great big and tall old boy)for a while now, and i really enjoy the way this tractor mounts and the room i have in the operator station.
so if it will handle the tools i will be using with it i will spend the money for the upgrade if i can find what i will need

At first I had no idea what this thrust bearing was but it is not hard to locate. It is a bolted on support and bearing on the front of the crank shaft. The 6080 I just bought and a 6060 sitting at the local dealer both have themI have an add on sheet in my 6080 manual that shows it and tells how to adjust it. I could mail you a copy.If I was a little more computer knowledgeable I would post it here

Tbran says it's not an issue on 6060's but the thrust kit couldn't hurt. You can look at parts at www.agcopartsbooks.com.

Read the manual carefully about PTO operation. If you're not actually using the PTO, the big lever for engaging/disengaging the PTO should be in the forward position with the manual disconnect, disconnected. If the previous owner/owners didn't use the PTO a lot or remembered to do the above as soon as the PTO operation was over, the thrust bearing will probably be fine------especially on the 6060.
Tractor Engineering felt that the Harvey (engine) plant was not controlling the surface finish and oil supply to the crank thrust bearing well enough as the Fiat engines didn't have the same problem. The PTO clutch system was a lot more common to Europe where the users had learned what to do and did it, unlike North American users---------which may have been part of the problem also. In the end, the kit to put the "bra" on the front crank pulley was the "fix" that Tractor Engineering had to come up with when Harvey couldn't figure out a way to make the their thrust bearing live. Kind of like the "pie pan" fix that we had to put on the power shift torque limiter when Harvey couldn't figure out how to keep rear main seals from leaking. the pto is basically set up like the ptos on the fiat built tractors, sold by the us companies, my 1355 oliver has a lever that you must use to power the pto option and a smaller pto engagement shifter that can be switched to either live or transmission powered pto operation, i actually like the set up but i do have to explain its operation to everyone who uses it that is used to the american style of pto engagement.
