The generator on my IB is only putting out .5 volts on multimeter @ half throttle with F terminal grounded with a jumper and one multimeter lead on the A terminal and the other grounded and all other wires off.  No spark with F terminal grounded when touching the F to A terminals at idle with other wires off.   The battery has 6.4 volts.  Continuity is good from battery (+) to the rail and from the rail to the generator bracket.   All connections are clean and shiny.  I removed the band cover from the housing and it looks like the commutator isn't wearing evenly.  The inner side is shiny while the outer (bearing) side is not. Also, one of the brushes is shifted to the outside about 1/8" so it's not tracking like the other 2.  I assume this is the problem but would like to know the cause.  Assuming the springs and/or brush holders are the faulty, can they be replaced or is a new end cap required? I don't see any of these parts available on line.  There's no repair shop in the area so any help will be appreciated.  Thanks.

Frank,
I offer rebuilding services on Starters, Generators, Mags, Distributors, Alternators, Carburetors and the Headlight/Charging 3 position switches if interested. Been in the Auto Electric business since 1968.  A nice upgrade to the 6V system is adding a voltage regulator and eliminating the 3 position switch unless you want to keep it original. Be happy to help you out.......Visit our website. Lot's of information there.
