I've been looking off and on at this ad for this WD45 for the past few months. I finally called the guy tonight. Come to find out, the tractor is only a mile and a half from my house. I could easily drive it home. Anyway, I ended up talking to this guy for an hour. He told me some interesting things, like the WD45, D14, D15, and D17 were all 45 horsepower. I'm not sure about the others, but I always thought a D17 had 54 horsepower. The most unusual thing he told me is a six cylinder chevy engine would bolt right up to a WC transmission. He said the clutch and everything would work. He said he has a WC he bought to restore that once had a chevy engine in it because it was used for tractor pulls. I didn't argue with the guy because I don't know, but I've never heard this before. I knew someone on this site would know if this guy is full of it or not.

This is the tractor he has for sale. A bit pricy I think, but I'm afraid to go look at it, it just might follow me home.

Nice looking tractor! Oughta follow someone home. :)

According to the AC Data Book,  the D17 was rated at 48.64 drawbar, 52.70 PTO. D15 series varied by I vs II - neither at 45 drawbar or PTO. So either this fellow has the inside scoop and the Data Book is wrong or......

D14 belt tested at 34 HP.  Drawbar tested at 30.91.  The D15 drawbar tested at 35. The PTO tested at 40. Not quite 45 HP there. Even the WD45 didn't quite make 45 HP. You can't always believe word of mouth, especially when someone is selling something

I don't think the guy was lying, I'm sure he believes they're 45 horsepower. You hear different things about horsepower. I once had a man tell me his D17 diesel was 80 horsepower. I was mainly wondering about the six cylinder chevy motor in an Allis. I like to know if that is true, not that I'd want to do it or anything, just curious.

No, the Chevy motor won't bolt right in. I've talked to people like that before.   MACK

I would imagine it would bolt to the WC/WD tranny providing an adapter plate was used, but as far as a direct bolt in is concerned, I'd think there would be a whole lot more Chevy 6 powered Tractors out there! I think Shameless has a Chevy powered inline 6 in one of his Tractors.  It he see's this post I'm sure he'll comment. I have a nice WC sitting along side the barn with no engine in it. Perfect candidate for a transplant!
